This is a unique opportunity for a Second in Department - Design Technology/Engineering to join a growing UTC.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced teacher, with an excellent knowledge and understanding of Design and Technology and/or Engineering, who wants to further their career. Knowledge of T Levels and/or mechanical/electrical engineering would be advantageous, although is not essential. You must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students, equipping them with the skills and characteristics needed to ensure they are at the front of the queue for the best apprenticeships and university places.

The curriculum and facilities are cutting edge including state of the art engineering workshops, CAD suites and a 3D print room and lead our students to apprenticeships in the engineering industry. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing heavy duty mechanical products and will have a focus on R&D side of things to help bring out new, innovative products.

Duties as Mechanical Design Engineer include;
• Create detailed design documents and drawings using SolidWorks and 3D CAD
• Designing and remodelling mechanical parts including engines, hydraulics, gears etc
• Design, create, assemble, and test prototypes.
• Be hands on with design, work in the shop floor area to assemble and fabricate pieces
• Estimate time and costs required to complete projects.
• Create designs to enhance current production machines performance and aesthetics.

Your new company
Due to continued growth and a recent move into new bespoke premises, this manufacturing solutions business are looking to hire additional design Engineers to support new and ongoing customer projects.
Your new role
This business offer manufacturing designs and solutions for the food manufacturing industry, as such you will be joining a busy team and be responsible for the end-to-end design of a project, including site installation design. You will develop work packages, design control panels, produce device, loads and I/O lists. You will produce site layout drawings with positions of equipment and cable routes, produce control panel schematics and software briefs. You will have responsibility for the budget and for ordering parts, as well as producing an operating and maintenance manual. As you hand over to the installation teams you will arrange control panel PDI with site project managers and offer any post project support that might be required.


What you\'ll need to succeed
You will have an HNC/HND in electrical Engineering with a background in Design Engineering and project related experience. Have experience of designing Control Panels and working knowledge of schematics and good working knowledge of Eplan P8 planning and design system Experience of managing budgets, producing operating manuals and strong customer service skills for post customer support.

About the role

An exciting post of Design and Technology Technician has become available at The Gainsborough Academy.

We have a superb set of facilities that allow us to teach a hugely diverse range of subject areas in the Design and Technology Faculty. Any prospective technician would need to have a good knowledge of the standard machines we use within the teaching classrooms or be willing to undertake separate bespoke training that will help the candidate to fulfill their role.

Technical staff have responsibility in the faculty to work with the Faculty Leader and the Heads of Department to support the planning and delivery of the specific subjects mentioned above. You will be responsible for the upkeep and repair / daily maintenance of the machines and resources, as well as completing weekly Health and Safety checks.

The faculty has a vast array of materials and resources which the technician would upkeep as well as ordering and monitoring stock levels, along with the purchasing of new materials. Good IT skills are essential to the role.
You must have a strong desire to work with pupils of all abilities and to make a difference. There is an expectation that you will work with small cohorts of pupils and help them to develop the skills required to pass their respective courses on a regular basis.
