1. Collect information from In-Patient wards across the Mental Health Care Division to provide an informative overview of capacity across all wards.2. Allocate inpatient beds following trust policy and procedures, and the outcome of clinical discussions.3. Support the day-to-day organisational / management responsibilities of the Team through the maintenance of Record Systems for the bed management service.4. Assist the Capacity and Flow Manager in the implementation of Trust Policies and Procedures within the team, including assisting in the development of policies, procedures and guidelines.5. Check the quality of RiO documentation relating to the admissions, gatekeeping, referrals and discharge plans highlighting any issues.6. Input data onto computerised systems as necessary and produce statistics as required by the Team and senior management team.7. Contribute to the co-ordination and oversight of delayed discharge reporting working alongside the Capacity and Flow Manager. Support in the early identification of blockages within the inpatient wards to prevent further delays, alerting appropriate management when there is a potential for an escalation.8. To act as a representative at team meetings including the Bed Management Divisional wide conference call in the absence of the Capacity and Flow Manager.9. To ensure accurate reporting twice daily of the Divisional inpatient position, via the national Escalation Management System.10. Ensure effective communication of the Divisional inpatient position to the Trust wide leadership teams.11. The post holder will be expected to network with Local Authorities, other NHS Trusts, Private sectors and external agencies (i.e., Police) in order to promote positive working relationships with outside providers.12. Use electronic system to ensure patient files and notes follow them on their pathway through in-patient services.13. Make or change bed allocation on behalf of the Division and ensure that relevant documentation and updates are available.14. Co-ordinate and arrange internal and external transport for patients allocated an inpatient bed.16. Support the Capacity and Flow Managers with the gatekeeping of step-down beds.17. Maintain regular contact with the Teams throughout the day when necessary. Exercise independent judgement and initiative based on acquired knowledge if problems arise.20. Attend Team meetings and produce minutes if required. Identify need for stationery, equipment, maintenance work etc. and order, as necessary.21. Establish good levels of communication / liaison with hospital departments / wards and other services involved with the bed management service provision.22. Liaise with Personal / Medical Secretaries, Clerks, and Receptionists when required.23. To co-ordinate annual leave taking with the Team and other colleagues.24. An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Assistant Management Accountant, acting as a key member of the Financial Management team. The postholder will provide accurate and timely financial information and reporting to colleagues internal and external to Finance, including providing support to budget holders across the organisation.

The successful candidate will have completed their Diploma Level of CIMA/CCAB qualification or have a relevant degree in Accounting. They will have strong numeracy skills and attention to detail, alongside excellent I.T. and communication skills.

The department currently has a hybrid working policy, so the successful candidate will be required to work a minimum of 3 days a week in the office. With sites at both Southport and Knowsley.

The Senior Assistant Management Accountant’s main duties will be to:
• Ensure the provision of high quality financial information and accurate advice to budget holders and other non-finance managers.
• Develop good working relationships with budget holders, regularly meeting with them to review their financial information and provide advice.
• Assist Financial Management colleagues in ensuring income and expenditure is monitored and is recorded accurately, including monitoring variances from planned income and expenditure and resolving queries with budget holders and Finance colleagues.
• Use Excel and other software to provide financial reports and conduct financial analysis, using formulae and other functionality as required.
• Complete regular tasks accurately and in line with the monthly timetable, including where relevant internal recharges between departments and updates to the ledger to reflect an accurate financial position.
• Ensure most effective use of the Trust’s financial resources, including assisting with the annual budget setting/financial planning process by updating and reviewing information for the new financial year, including staffing information. To liaise with budget holders as part of this process, to ensure accurate information is used.
• Proactively review regular tasks within their areas of responsibility, identifying opportunities for improvements and more efficient working to support continuous improvement of the Finance function.

KEY DUTIES

• To establish and maintain strong working relationships with both key internal and external individuals to ensure effective working. The post holder will be expected to liaise with both internal departments and external bodies.

• To ensure the provision of high-quality financial advice to budget holders and other non-finance managers to enable the delivery of the Trust’s strategic, corporate financial objectives.

Trust Profile
The Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust provides a full range of acute in-patient, out-patient, day case and emergency services to the local communities. The Trust is comprised of Whiston Hospital and St Helens Hospital, which lie 4 miles apart. There is a Critical Care Unit with ICU, HDU, CCU, and an onsite Cardiac Catheter Laboratory. The stroke consultants deliver 24/7 thrombolysis to eligible patients presenting with acute stroke, and the 30 bedded stroke ward accommodates both acute stroke patients and those with rehabilitation needs.

St Helens Hospital
The redeveloped hospital was opened in 2008 as an Ambulatory Care Centre with Intermediate Care and Day Surgery. The Rheumatology, Dermatology and Diabetes services are based on this site, with in-reach of their staff into the acute wards at Whiston Hospital.
