Major duties for the Food Service Worker Supervisor include, but are not limited to:

• Supervises all areas of food production and service including food preparation, nourishment, tray delivery and retrieval;

The National Park Service (NPS) is looking for temporary employees to work on a variety of wildland firefighting crews in Moose, WY (Grand Teton NP). Work may include working as a crew member on any of the following types of crews: Hand; Fuels; and Prescribed. For more information on Types of Crews, click here.

A Wildland Firefighter (GS-07) serves as an experienced leader and member on an Hand, Fuels, and Prescribed Fire crew performing various duties. On a Hand crew, locates fire line, directs and participates in fire line construction, backfiring and burnout operations, tree felling and holding/patrol mop-up operations. On a Prescribed crew, directs and performs prescribed fire operations including line preparation activities such as brush clearing and hazard tree removal; ignition, monitoring, holding, and mop-up. Monitors fire behavior, fire effects, and fire weather on prescribed fires and wildfires. On a Fuels crew, directs and participates in fireline construction, backfiring and burnout operation. During initial attack fire suppression activities, locates fireline, leads brush clearing, tree felling and holding/patrol/mop up operations. Participates in prescribed fire operations.

• These positions work in a variety of program areas such as Water Resources, GIS, Caves, Geology, Air and/or Water Quality, Climate, Soundscapes, etc. Duties will vary by location.

In these positions, you perform moderately heavy physical labor requiring the use of common hand tools and power equipment involving any or all of the following duties:

• Operate heavy power equipment such as lawn mowers, portable snow blowers and all types of hand tools (such as shovels, rakes, lawn edging equipment, etc.) to maintain buildings, grounds, trails, etc.
• Load and unload supplies and materials from trucks, trailers, dollies, etc.
• Move furniture, remove and set signs, paint picnic tables and signs, rake and water lawns, trim trees and shrubbery, pick up litter and/or clean fire pits.
• Dig ditches and trenches with pick and shovel; occasionally break up pavement, soil or concrete; mix and power concrete, asphalt and hot/cold mix; fill and level holes in damaged roads.

DUTIES:

• Perform full food services for 50-60 teens and staff at the YCC facility including: dining hall management; food preparation; cooking; serving and replenishing food; cleaning facilities, equipment, and utensils; cleaning/stocking tables in dining areas; and handling foods and supplies.
• Plan and execute menus for well-balanced meals to serve YCC program participants. Research and prepare meals for participants with special food allergies or other dietary restrictions such as vegetarian, gluten-free, or vegan.

• Assist with bear capture operations using/setting culvert traps, leg-hold snares, jab-stick, and free-dart techniques.
• Conduct bear hazing operations.
• Collect/record biological field data.
• Use firearms for wildlife management duties (hazing of habituated wildlife, aggressive, injured wildlife, safety protocols during the trapping/handling of wildlife, protection of team members).

Duties include:

• Respond to calls regarding wildlife-caused traffic jams (e.g., bear jam) along roadways.
• Take necessary actions to manage the human-wildlife interface and protect visitors and resources by successfully reading animal behavior, specifically black and grizzly bear behavior, and implementing proper hazing/aversive conditioning techniques to move bears off roads/out of developed areas.
• Provide visitors with information about bear ecology and behavior, how to stay safe in bear country, and ethical wildlife viewing techniques.
• Work independently, both in front-country and back-country settings, around potentially dangerous wildlife such as grizzly bears, black bears, mountain lions, bison, and moose.
• Patrol public use areas, such as campgrounds and picnic areas, to look for and secure unattended bear attractants as well as educate visitors about proper food storage techniques.
• Collect and enter data into Microsoft Access and/or Excel databases.
• May assist biologists with the trapping and immobilization of bears.
• Post closures and other warnings signs, which may include carrying and installing signposts in the ground over an expansive area.
• Retrieve dead animals such as deer, pronghorn, and elk from road corridors or developed areas.
