BACKGROUND TO THE POST

The Head of Work Based Learning is responsible for the leadership and management of the Engineering Apprenticeship Work Based Learning curriculum area. With direct accountability for the success and positive progression of the student cohort under the leadership of the Director of Engineering Apprenticeships and Jaguar Land Rover Programmes.

The post holder will be accountable for curriculum, resource & financial management, and quality assurance.

Through the effective deployment of resources and College systems and procedures, the post holder will ensure that each student has access to and receives an outstanding experience including high quality teaching, learning and assessment that will ensure our students develop WCG ‘T-shaped’ employability skills to gain a competitive advantage as they progress towards and along their chosen careers.
Whilst working within the core values and through continuous improvement, the post holder will develop the curriculum area to meet or exceed the College’s KPIs.

Essential Attainments

✓Educated to a full Level 4 in a qualification within the subject area or related discipline

JOB PURPOSE

Be the single point of contact and main liaison between the employer, the apprentices and the college.

Support, mentor and guide the apprentice during their apprenticeship to collate the evidence required for their qualification and Apprenticeship Standard or Programme.

Support the Apprentice through the EPA Process.

Complete apprentice reviews in a timely manner and ensure feedback/actions are fully communicated to all relevant parties.

Conduct Employer Premises Compliance visits and subsequent monitoring visits to ensure all matters in relation to Health and Safety and insurance are in place and the associated documentation and recording processes are adhered to.

Provide relevant information, guidance, updates and support to existing and new employers in relation to our curriculum offer including: Apprenticeship Service.

Work closely with the relevant curriculum team/s to monitor apprentice progress against their assessment plan and milestones.

Carry out assessment to national, college and awarding body standards and to support achievement of all elements of the programme.

Attend marketing or careers events at college or at other venues as required to promote the college's curriculum on offer.

To support the Head of Work Based Learning through a cycle of continual quality improvement


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist, guide and support students following their initial enquiry and interview to choose the right course of study.

Assist, guide and support employers to access appropriate recruitment options and funding streams for their respective training needs, where appropriate; including the Apprenticeship Service, Recruit an Apprentice Service

Work with relevant parties to ensure students are placed in a safe, suitable and healthy environment with appropriate access to work based training.

Work with support departments and Head of WBL to ensure that all existing and new programmes, within the vocational area are marketed and promoted in the best interests of the College.

Represent the department in promotional activities and provide student statistics and reports where needed for Senior Management.

Support vocational areas by setting up and promoting bespoke training to meet industry needs when required.



Essential Criteria

1. Experience of mentoring or coaching.
2. Evidence of formal structured training e.g. an apprenticeship.
3. A level 3 qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
4. Assessor award A1, or equivalent.

Current experience or assessor activity in any of the below

• Engineering Maintenance,
• Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering,
• Engineering Technical Support Additive,
• Manufacturing / Composites ( Carbon )
• o General Machining.

1. Vocational experience of working in industry and dealing with customers.
2. A willingness to undertake professional development to address specific vocational skill requirements.
3. IT skills in Excel / Word / Outlook or similar software.

A driving licence free of major endorsements and/or the ability to travel within the College's recruitment area
