The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of communications skills and physical examinations skills to students. Working across the College of Medicine and Health you will be responsible for leading the development, organisation and delivery of innovative approaches to simulated learning and clinical skills for all health programmes. As an expert practitioner, it is expected that you will have experience in running clinical simulations and supporting staff and students using your skills to create a safe learning environment based on sound pedagogical foundations to ensure our students have a first-class learning experience.

Working in an administrative capacity you will work in the Referral Unit within the east Kent locality taking calls and emails from Acute Trusts, GPs and patients in the community. A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician to join our expanding and friendly pharmacy department on a 2-year fixed term training post. Learn while you earn!

As a Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician apprentice, you will undertake an approved Level 3 or level 4 qualification (dependant on knowledge provider). As the programme is delivered as an apprenticeship, you will be expected to spend time in the workplace and 20% off the job learning. This usually means one day a week for study and workplace training for the remaining 4 days a week learning professional knowledge, skills and completing required competencies.

General Description of Assigned Duties:
The diagnostic radiologist provides a spectrum of image interpretation, image-guided procedures and patient care services within the specialty of Diagnostic Radiology, and may also possess additional subspecialty expertise. Duties include but are not limited to:

The Orthopedic Surgeon will diagnose and treat all the common musculoskeletal conditions, to include surgical and non-surgical management of diseases and injuries to the musculoskeletal system. The incumbent provides care of the Veterans' medical needs by performing examination, surgical consultation, and developing treatment and follow-up plans. The incumbent physician will provide ongoing patient and family education throughout the course of treatment.

The Orthopedic surgeon will directly supervise staff as required, including mid-level providers, RNs, LVNs on occasion, and other trainees. S/he will participate in quality improvement activates, including but not limited to performance measure meetings, staff meetings, Morbidity and Mortality conference and peer review. The incumbent will be expected to participate in the call schedule after hours and will need to respond promptly in emergent situations. The incumbent must adhere to policies and procedures regarding the completion of all required operation/procedure notes/reports, discharge summaries, orders, progress notes, clinical reminders, all other required medical documentation, and performance measures in a timely fashion. Incumbent will ensure the most effective delivery of care, while meeting and exceeding compliance, Joint Commission and VA Central Office performance measure standards.

This position functions in the clinical associate role in the primary care clinic, which utilizes a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model. The PACT ICT is responsible for providing direct and/or indirect patient care to an assigned group of patients. She/he will have the knowledge, skill and experience to carry out assignments involving point of care testing, providing treatments and vaccinations, performing diagnostic studies, and patient/family education. The ICT demonstrates active collaboration and communication with Patient Aligned Care Teamlet (Patient, Primary Care Provider, RN Care Manager and Administrative Associate) and Larger Team (family/caregiver, internal and community-based services and disciplines involved in providing care to the patient). This is the full performance level for the ICT position. This is a bargaining unit position.

Major duties include:

• The incumbent assists outpatient licensed staff with the delivery of care to patients with complex, specialized, and potentially life-threatening situations.
• Performs observation-based screening and collecting patient information in collaboration with licensed personnel.
• Completes approved templates and tools, such as the outpatient intake form, normal result notes, and follow up treatment protocols established by the agency.
• Assists in behavioral/psychiatric situations in an outpatient setting. This can include assisting licensed personnel with crisis intervention, management of aggressive or suicidal psychiatric patients, by providing one-to-one observations and applying prevention and management of disruptive behavior techniques (PMDB).
• Performs duties focused on communication techniques required to complete the questioners and templates approved for use in any outpatient clinical setting, including active listening, restating, and mirroring.
• Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment for the patient while promoting a sense of worth and dignity under the supervision of the licensed personnel.
• Assists outpatient licensed staff with the delivery of care to patients with complex, specialized, and potentially life-threatening situations.
• Assists licensed staff with preparing patients for medical evaluation, setting up equipment, passing instruments and providing treatment during in person or virtual visits.
• Operates specialized medical equipment to obtain diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes.
• Collects a wide range of specimens and preparing them for transfer to processing.
• Observes patient status and keeps licensed clinical staff informed of any change in condition.
• Clinical responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Vital signs. Examples: vital signs, 12-lead electrocardiogram (EKG).
  • Point-of-care (POC). Examples: Abbott hand-held blood analyzer (I-STAT), glucometer.
  • Equipment and surgical instrumentation set up. Examples: skin biopsies (excisional, shave, punch).
  • Treatments and interventions. Examples: Cryotherapy, incision and drainage, ambulation, and Foley coude' catheter insertion.
  • Wound care. Examples: bandaging, application of dressings and wound measurements.
  • Specimen collection and Preparation. Examples: collecting and labeling venous blood samples and mucous specimens.
  • Assisting with patient exams and screening. Examples: gynecology exams.
  • Mental health care. Examples: Crisis intervention, performs behavioral/mental health screens, conducts interviews, and observes behavioral patients.
  • Preparation of lab specimens and transfer to the lab for processing: Examples: Labeling, placing in the proper bin or tube system.
  • Assisting with patient exams and screening, utilizing technology such as telehealth peripherals. Examples: primary care physical exams (heart, eye, ear, nose, throat (EENT); gait exams, and skin exams.
  • Patient education within scope of care or while providing an intervention. Examples: post procedural care, splint care and wound care.
  • Follow-up care: Examples: Suture removal.
  • Electronic Health Record (EHR): Thoroughly and appropriately documents actions, interventions and procedures in the medical record. Examples: Procedural notes, progress notes, screenings, photo-documentation and secure messaging.

The selectee reports to the Deputy HRO and has the capacity to act on their behalf to address a broad scope of HR functions and issues.
