Role and Responsibilities

The Berkshire Early Intervention in Psychosis Service (EIP) is looking for a passionate and enthusiastic band 6 mental health practitioner to join their innovative and dynamic team. The EIP team is specialist service, with teams embedded within each locality. The team work with individuals experiencing a first episode of psychosis or who are presenting with an at-risk mental state, between the ages of 18 to 65.

We operate a Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm service, although some flexibility is required. This advert is for a role covering Reading, based at Prospect House.

You will have a clear passion for supporting people and their family in their recovery. You will work with our integrated team of psychiatrists, psychologists, psychological therapists, and STR workers to empower and support our clients to understand their experiences and return to college, university or employment. We work with our clients for up to 3 years and the majority do get transferred back to their GP, therefore it is a rewarding team to work with.
• To act as named worker, offering evidence based interventions for psychosis, under the supervision of the Clinical Lead. The role is focused on working collaboratively with the client and their family/friends on their recovery, developing a relapse management plan.
• To undertake comprehensive assessment of health and social needs together with the client and their family to implement a plan of care and provision of NICE recommended interventions.
• To work closely with other stakeholders to ensure the client has a comprehensive and holistic care plan to meet their well being needs.
• To monitor and assess the physical health of service users in line with Trust policy and national guidelines.
• Plan and provide treatment in collaboration with a multi disciplinary team and ensure clients are on the correct care pathway

Sorrel is a mixed 11 bed Psychiatric ICU that provides care to vulnerable adults detained under the MHA. The ward provides a low stimulus environment for patients who have specific needs and associated risks that can't be managed on other wards.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mental Health Inpatient Band 6 Specialist Dietitian F/T (P/T considered) Therapy Centre, Prospect Park Hospital, Reading, Berkshire

Are you a Dietitian interested in developing skills in mental health and service improvement? This role is a combination of clinical work and service review. The successful candidate will be based at Prospect Park Hospital, Reading, covering a mixed caseload of adults and older adults with nutrition support, weight management, eating disorders and other nutrition related issues.

You will be part of the Therapy Team, with over 20 welcoming and supportive AHPs, such as Dietitians, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, and support staff that strive to create a warm, friendly and compassionate environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for working closely with their MDT and Therapy Team colleagues supporting patients in a variety of ways to optimise their nutritional status.

You will have a passion for caring, a warm personality and the resilience to play a vital role in helping patients take the next step in their journey.

We encourage service development and have an established quality improvement programme driving the service forward.
• To contribute towards providing, maintaining and developing the Nutrition & Dietetic Service for older adult and adult patients within the inpatient mental health service.

· To plan, co-ordinate and deliver nutrition/dietetic training of carers, professionals and support staff.

· To undertake an assessment of adult and older adult patients’ needs including the calculation of nutritional requirements based on the interpretation of biochemistry, anthropometry, clinical condition and other physical and social parameters.

· To plan, justify and deliver specialised evidence based dietary advice to patients accessing the inpatient mental health services.

· To provide evidence based dietetic care plans for patients at risk of developing refeeding syndrome

· To deliver group sessions for weight management patients, with the support of the dietetic assistant and the occupational therapy assistant.

· To share care with the other hospital dietitians, and members of the multi-disciplinary team regarding the treatment of older adult and adult patients within the inpatient mental health service.

· To communicate complicated information effectively using appropriate aids and skills to adults and older adults within inpatient mental health services, and where there may be cultural differences and/or a barrier to understanding.

· Using a Quality Improvement programme to lead service development.
