The Opportunity:

The Information and Support Supervisor will work 35 hours per week, Sunday to Thursday, with a pattern of: Sunday 12-7pm, Monday 9am-5pm, Tuesday 12-8pm, Wednesday and Thursday 9am-5pm.

The role involves providing front line support to students, staff, NHS staff and visitors of the University across a range of services including Library, IT, Student Finance and Student Administration. The successful candidate will provide excellent customer service while offering face-to-face and online help and information to users while managing a high volume in-person and online enquiries, working flexibly in order to respond to shifting service need and resolving user queries whenever possible, passing on those which require more specialist help

About the role
This is a national role, and an opportunity to use your analytical and data skills and experience to make a real difference for people using care services across Scotland. This might include analysing data from numerous internal and external sources to produce insightful intelligence that in turn helps our inspectors target their work; setting up and automating dashboards of management information; or preparing major statistical publications in line with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics. You will be confident manipulating and interrogating large volumes of raw data, using a variety of software and analytical techniques, and have an eye for detail when it comes to data quality.

About you
You should be educated to SCQF Level 9 (with a subject that includes a significant numerical component). You will ideally have a background in business intelligence, data science, data analysis, operational research, intelligence analysis or data analysis. You will be familiar with business intelligence software (Power BI, Tableau etc.) and proficient in a relevant programming language (SAS, SQL, Python or R etc.). You will be expected to work with colleagues at all levels in the Care Inspectorate therefore must have good interpersonal skills and be capable of conveying complex findings clearly both verbally and in writing. Excellent IT and analytical skills are a pre-requisite, enabling you to manage and analyse large amounts of data and present complex information in a meaningful way.

The Hospital Coder applies skills and knowledge of currently mandated coding and classification systems, and official resources to select the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes (including applicable modifiers), and other codes representing healthcare services (including substances, equipment, supplies, or other items used in the provision of healthcare services). This position is responsible for selecting and sequencing the codes such that the organization receives the optimal reimbursement to which the facility is legally entitled, remembering that it is unethical and illegal to increase reimbursement by means that contradict requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Use a computerized encoding system to facilitate accurate coding. Sequence diagnoses and procedures by following the ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT4, Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set (UHDDS), Medicare, Medicaid and other fiscal intermediary guidelines.
• Support the reporting of healthcare data elements (e.g. diagnoses and procedure codes, hospital acquired conditions, patient safety indicators) required for external reporting purposes (e.g. reimbursement, value based purchasing initiatives and other administrative uses, population health, quality and patient safety measurement, and research) completely and accurately, in accordance with regulatory and documentation standards and requirements, as well as all applicable official coding conventions, rules, and guidelines.
• Query the provider (physician or other qualified healthcare practitioner), whether verbal or written, for clarification and/or additional documentation when there is conflicting, incomplete, or ambiguous information in the health record regarding a significant reportable condition or procedure or other reportable data element dependent on health record documentation (e.g. present on admission indicators).
