We are an 11-16 academy, based in Normanton, Wakefield in West Yorkshire. Outwood Academy Freeston is looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and inspiring classroom practitioner with a real passion for science. An excellent knowledge and understanding of the subject is essential. Each member of our department works collaboratively to produce good teaching and learning resources to reduce your workload and allow you to have the utmost confidence when teaching outside of your scientific specialism.

If you join our team, you will be teaching in a laboratory which is fully equipped with specialised equipment and managed by our experienced technician who will help you make all of your lessons engaging and exciting.
As a subject teacher you will be required to complete the professional duties that are expected of a UK qualified Teacher in accordance with academy policies and procedures and your subject specialism.
You should promote the achievement of high standards through effective teaching and learning within your subject area, including the preparation, application and development of lesson resources in alignment with the curriculum, as directed by your department head and senior leaders within the academy.
You will be responsible for effective classroom management and the coordinator of class work with any classroom support staff that are present. You must evaluate lessons and incorporate student views and responses to reflect and identify areas of development.
You must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students and share our single goal of ‘students first’. OGAT are proud to be a part of the National Institute of Teaching (NIoT) hosting its North and East campus as Outwood Academy Redcar and Outwood Academy Adwick. The NIoT identifies best practice in education, in order to develop cutting-edge, evidence-based teacher training and professional development programmes. The DfE are promoting additional payments to encourage ECTs in state-funded secondary schools in England to continue teaching. These ECTs will need to be teaching in one of the following subject areas: Chemistry, Computer Science, Maths or Physics.
It is worth noting that, in this context, the DfE are referring to early career teachers who trained to teach during, or after,2017/18.

Levelling up payment: £2000 per annum until 31 August 2025 for chemistry and physics teachers (Application required - more information can be found here)

Additional Benefits
• £25 per hour for holiday / weekend revision sessions - max £125 per day (voluntary)
• Opportunities to offer 1:1 virtual tuition after school and weekends paid at £32.61 per hour
• 3 extra days holiday per year for all teaching staff
• Minimum 2-hour weekly CPD session for all teaching staff
Job type: Full Time or Part-Time considered, with the part time being 0.80 minimum. Permanent post.
