About the role
Bury Council has an exciting position for a suitably qualified and experienced Transportation professional within Engineering & Streetscene.
The successful candidate will support the Head of Service in providing strategic leadership on all Highway Transportation matters, developing the Council’s Transport Policies and Strategies, working closely with planning colleagues and TfGM.
As a Group Manager - Transportation, you will:
Be responsible for the day to day management of the Transportation Group.
Co-ordinate the preparation of initial concept scheme designs, scheme consultations and provide strategic direction on high profile regeneration and infrastructure schemes, including active travel, bus priority, road safety and highway improvements.
Prepare and review design briefs for highway and transportation schemes.
You must be self-motivated and able to work independently and with initiative, prioritising workloads, managing delegated budgets and meeting deadlines.

Extensive Transportation knowledge and experience, with a proven track record of delivering successful outcomes
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Membership of an appropriate professional organisation
Strong management, leadership and motivational skills
Ability to work at pace in order to meet the demands of a challenging and varied workload.
Normal hours of work are 37 hours per week based around the usual business working week. Dependent on service requirements, you may be required to work on a rota basis.
