Principal Accountabilities
Specific responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Primary technical accounting expert in key areas
- Support global accounting function with technical accounting and Flowserve accounting policy inquiries
- Maintain Flowserve accounting policies, including updating on an as-needed basis and approving accounting policy waivers
- Prepare quarterly and annual impairment analysis for goodwill and indefinite-lived assets
- Remain current and proactive on new and updated accounting standards affecting the company, including evaluation / analysis of impacts
- Track and communicate status of upcoming FASB projects and exposure drafts
- Partner with the business to manage efforts for implementation of new and updated accounting standards and policies across the company
- Coordinate and manage the technical accounting and purchase accounting for acquisition and divestiture projects
- Provide support for complex and non-routine accounting transactions, including prospectively supporting proposed business transactions, drafting technical accounting memoranda and providing relevant advice/consultation to key decision makers
- Support accounting and finance-oriented process improvement initiatives across the company
- Interact with internal and external auditors on relevant matters
- Develop and administer global training programs targeted to accounting and finance personnel utilizing multiple delivery methods
- Assist in the preparation and review of financial statements, footnotes and MD&A for annual reports on Form 10-K and quarterly reports on Form 10-Q, for a large, complex and multinational manufacturing company
- Support other projects and corporate-level initiatives that have a significant impact on the global accounting and finance organization
Required Skills/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- 5+ years’ experience in some combination of technical accounting, SEC reporting, Internal audit, industry or big four public accounting
- Strong technical accounting background with a thorough knowledge of US GAAP, SOX 404 and SEC reporting standards and ability to perform technical research in these areas as needed
- Strong technical accounting skills including, but not limited to, knowledge of accounting for goodwill and other intangible assets, cash flow statements, derivatives, revenue recognition, leases, fixed assets and currency translation
- Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills; ability to apply judgement and operate effectively in a decentralized, and dynamic environment
- Attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to package and present complex information in an effective and efficient manner
- Able to multi-task and meet deadlines in time-constrained situations
- Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of organization, both internally and externally
- Strong PC skills including Windows and Microsoft Office products
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- Masters Degree in Accounting
- CPA Certification
- Knowledge of Workiva and SAP BPC
- Experience with industrial products/manufacturing/distribution companies
- Project management experience preferred, including ability to coordinate cross-functional and global teams
