We are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join our team!

As a Design Engineer you will be working as part of our project refinement team responsible for a portfolio of work.

You'll be required to complete site visits across SSEN's South Distribution Network, liaising with all stakeholders to ensure the scheme you are working on is fully compliant and feasible for delivery.

You'll ensure that all network alterations driven by our CAPEX and OPEX Investment can be constructed safely, cost effectively and to SSEN's policies and procedures.

This is an exciting opportunity as you will be at the forefront of enabling SSE to meet its Net Zero ambitions.

Roles & responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

- Producing a number of deliverables that are part of wider network alterations, refurbishments, and wayleave terminations from LV cables, 11kV distribution sub stations up to and including our 33kV network.

- Liaise with customers, land agents, local authorities, and SSE colleagues to achieve a fit for purpose design, this will include visiting site.

- Identifying archaeology, ecological, environmental concerns and other land designations prior to works starting.

- Producing design deliverables (drawings, documents, access package and PCI's) to be ready for handover with construction team. All deliverables are to be produced using SSEN's Design Standards.

- Acting as Principal Designer you will ensure all schemes handed to delivery are CDM compliant, reducing and mitigating all health and safety risks.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role you must have:

Knowledge and experience in the design/construction of new cable routes, new overhead lines, network refurbishment, plant replacement and alterations on the LV to 33kV networks. We would also like you to have an understanding of CDM regulations.

These additional skills/qualifications would be advantageous, but not essential as training can be provided:

- Electrical and Electronic Qualification or equivalent.

- IOSH/NEEBOSH or similar health and safety qualification.

- Knowledge of Land Designations/consents and requirements for working within these areas.

- Experience of working with the NRSWA code of practice.

We are looking for a Substation Electrical Design Engineer to join our team!

As a Substation Design Engineer within the CMI Works Delivery team, you will be responsible for the design of a number of Capital Asset replacement projects in our substations at 11-132kV.

You will manage the initial high level scope up to 132kV system design, outage planning, CDM, safety, and risk management, financial analysis and forecasting during the design phase of projects and assist with the construction and closure phases of projects.

This is an exciting opportunity as you will be at the forefront of enabling SSE to meet its Net Zero ambitions.

Roles & responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

- Manage each project's financial forecasting during the design phase, safety management, programming and scheduling, with monthly reporting.

- Comply with SSEN Governance for all design elements whilst assisting with construction, quality assurance, public relations tender management, and ensure compliance to current CDM Regulations.

- Review of, and approving incoming designs from consultants and 3rd parties, ensuring fully workable designs are produced for construction.

- Produce designs for temporary works as required.

- Work with multiple project stakeholders to develop detailed designs including protection engineers, RTS engineers, SAP's, civils, supply chain and delivery PM's.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we're looking for you to have:

- Experience in the design and specification of substation asset replacement schemes up to 132kV, as a designer or recently developed within an operational role.

- An HNC or Degree level qualification in an engineering or relevant subject with knowledge of the Electricity Distribution Network or experience from working in an ICP, IDNO, or other supplier to the industry.

- Carry out detailed substation designs including drawings (SLD's/layout/elevations) and carry out own document management, with minimal supervision. Produce detailed material lists and specify and order materials and plant.

- Experience in applying the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 to technically complex projects.

- A working knowledge of contracting & procurement methods and the necessary input to these at the design stage, such as with NEC3 type contracts.

This role is for an experienced Solution Architect expert in Work Management technology & processes to support the evolution of our application estate by targeting the development of the functionality that supports SSE's Distribution business. The scope will focus on enterprise level IT systems that support our business and operational teams. As we deliver enhancements to our business capabilities, moving from a limited set of solutions to a modern, cloud based, application portfolio, we need to ensure we build this in a secure and robust manner. The role will drive a range of initiatives, with a focus on creating architectures for specific platforms & components, and providing the high-level designs for them to be implemented.

The successful applicant will report to the Lead Architect as part of an expanding architecture team, with the ability to influence strategy and approach. The Real Time Systems Design and delivery (RTSD) Engineer, reporting to the lead RTSD Engineer, will play a pivotal role in interpreting business and customer requirements to turn them into technical solutions and deliverables whilst ensuring that all policies and standards are met.

• Management of multiple concurrent projects of various dimensions will be an integral part of this role and therefore stakeholder collaboration at all levels, priority and time management are essential aspects of this role .
• Solutions may range from a single secondary distribution control system to a more complex multi-site data acquisition, monitoring and control systems that includes provision of end-to-end connectivity from the plant to the Control Room SCADA, over wide area networks via optical, copper, or wireless technologies.
• You will play a vital role in design assurance and technical project management along with undertaking other allocated tasks of the technical services department.

We have an established process for design and delivery, however, there will be opportunities to develop and produce new processes, procedures, and solutions. The ongoing technology and delivery strategy is a team effort, and this role will be expected to strongly contribute.

Your Skills and Experience

To be an effective member of this diverse and multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will:

• Hold a degree, (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field, such as Computing, Science, Electronics or Engineering. Due to the technical nature of the role, previous experience in a similar role is preferred.
• Be capable of taking ownership for technical design and delivery of substation automation, telecommunication, and related services from inception to completion, adhering to the process, policies, and standards.
• Have hands-on experience in configuring RTUs, IEDs, networking devices, media converters etc. and will demonstrate competency in most common Serial/TCP based electrical utility SCADA protocols. Familiarity with telecoms and telemetry systems will be an added advantage.
• Be required to manage multiple projects and resources across several sites therefore the ability to adapt with changing workload and business priorities is essential. You will also have to be self-disciplined with excellent organisational skills, capable of working on your own initiative and to deadlines within high pressure environments.

Further to the technical requirements, you will be safety focussed with excellent written and verbal communication skills; you should be comfortable dealing with stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external.

The role will be office based, however the role will require regular travel to substations, sites, supplier locations and other SSE offices as required so a full driving license is essential.

What is the Role?

As our Design Engineer, you'll be responsible for the day to day operation in the central design team, working with portfolio management to identify projects, and applying SSEN standardised designs up to 132kV. In this role you will be:

- Co-ordinating pre-construction surveys, stakeholder engagement and agreement of project scope, producing pre-tender documentation including programmes and financial forecasting, and ensuring compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.

- Producing Electrical Design, checking and approving design deliverables in a quality management setting to ensure the most appropriate and cost-effective design solutions are selected to meet customer requirements, managing relevant performers in the design team and driving project performance, cost estimations.

- Ensuring SSEN standardised designs are applied and aligned to the basis of design for execution by SSEN and provide engineering design inputs to ITT's (Instructions to Tender), including review tender returns.

- Taking responsibility for specification of plant through completion of order schedules for primary plant items, which will require an understanding of the plant items and their interaction.

What do I need?

- Competency in power system design up to 132kV with an understanding of design governance and statutory requirements including CDM.

- Experience of driving team performance and managing complex large projects, ideally experience of working on large cable projects.

What is the Role?

To help deliver our RIIO ED2 business plan of £4BN we are expanding our Large Capital Delivery teams across our SEPD Distribution licence areas with additional Electrical Design Engineers. As Design Engineer you'll be responsible for day to day design functions in the central design team working on Large Capital Delivery Projects up to 132kV. Our projects include condition related replacement of existing assets, network reinforcement due to load growth and the installation of new substations to accommodate new customers.

- Coordinating stakeholder engagement and agreement of project scope, producing pre-tender documentation including works information packs, pre-construction surveys, programmes and financial forecasting, and ensuring compliance with the Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015.

- Producing Electrical Designs in collaboration with different design disciplines ensuring that projects can be executed safely and result in a network that can be safely and efficiently operated and maintained.

- Specification of plant through completion of order schedules for primary plant items.

- Checking and approving design deliverables according to Design Assurance requirements to ensure the most appropriate and cost-effective design solutions are selected to meet business and customer requirements.

- Ensuring SSEN design standards are applied and adhered to throughout tendering processes end events.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Competency in power system design and operation up to 132kV and a detailed understanding of the plant items and their interaction.

- Experience of working on large infrastructure projects.

- Experience of driving team performance and managing complex large projects in line with design governance and statutory requirements including CDM.

- A qualification (minimum of HNC level) in a relevant discipline or have demonstrable experience in a similar role.

- A full, current driving licence.
