The Utility Surveyor role will work to provide and deliver quality-assured geospatial data on surveying projects for clients across a variety of sectors throughout the UK&I.
This predominantly field-based position will work on supervised and unsupervised activities both individually and as part of wider teams on projects of varied complexity using state-of-the-art equipment to support the delivery of quality field data for Underground Utility Mapping, Drainage surveys, and additional surveying services, techniques, and procedures.
The understanding and application of health and safety procedures and safe systems of work within supervised and unsupervised activities are fundamental to success; as is working methodically to a plan and solving problems to ensure surveys are delivered to cost, time, and scope. This role will require drive and initiative to solve problems and liaise with clients and other stakeholders, when necessary, to ensure deliverables are met.
The data capture of projects will require travel around the UK in a company fleet vehicle and the use of the latest surveying equipment.
This role is part of a structured development pathway that provides recognised industry qualifications and personal development.
Role & Responsibilities
· Lead and support the planning and execution of survey projects and manage timescales whilst adhering to the client’s scope.
· Support the Senior Surveyors and Survey Managers.
· Follow operational instructions and technical guidance to support quality-controlled delivery of survey deliverables to clients.
· Follow safe systems of work in a variety of external and internal site environments.
· Undertake and deliver supervised and unsupervised works following risk assessments and safe systems of work to project timescales.
· Liaise and engage with members of the public, team members, and client stakeholders.
· Escalation of operational, Health and Safety, and commercial risks.
· Following company procedures and policies, including commercial driving best practices.
· A desire to learn and develop new techniques, and procedures through the pursuit of formal and informal training.
· Ensure and maintain Quality compliance.
Skills and Expertise
· QCF Level 3 in Utility Mapping and Surveying or have a relevant HNC/Diploma in Surveying or related discipline, however, candidates with suitable skills and/or proven experience will also be considered.
· Minimum of 2 year’s experience in delivering Underground Utility surveying services essential.
· Understanding of PAS128 Standards.
· Competent in carrying out below-ground utility surveys and mapping surveys, to PAS128 standards in both collecting and post-processing of the site data under your supervision.
· Competent user of surveying equipment such as Electromagnetic and Ground Penetrating Radar.
· A competent user of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is essential to enable you to post-process data and report compilation.
· Demonstrable a good communicator in written and verbal English.
· Ability to work within a team or independently within a project brief.
· A desire to learn on the job a can-do attitude, and the ability to resolve unexpected issues.
· Full UK driving Licence and be willing to take and pass regular drugs and alcohol screening.
· Good time management and flexibility in working hours.
· Right to work in the UK.
NB This lead role involves a lot of field-based activities throughout the UK and therefore requires a level of fitness, (this could also include night work) and requires some working away from home, both as part of a team or on an individual basis.
