Summary of role/main purpose of job To undertake an extensive legal caseload of reasonably complex property and regeneration related work as part of the Shared Legal Service referred to as “Mid Kent Legal Services” (MKLS).

1. To undertake an extensive legal caseload of reasonably complex property and regeneration related work as a member of the MKLS Property and Contracts team providing legal advice services to elected members, including committees and to senior managers and staff across the MKS authorities (Maidstone, Swale & Tunbridge Wells BCs) and to any other MKLS customer in accordance with Lexcel standards and in a way that reflects the MKLS values.
2. To keep abreast of legal developments in the field of Property and Regeneration and help to ensure that the MKLS Property and Regeneration team operates in accordance with modern good practice.
3. To provide legal supervision to less senior fee earners in the MKLS Property and Regeneration team as appropriate and work closely with Legal Support Officers to supervise the administrative support they provide on legal transactions.
Miscellaneous
4. To be committed to the Visions, Strategic Plans and policy frameworks of the MKS authorities.
5. To use and assist others to use information technology systems including the case management system (Iken) and to carry out duties in the most efficient and effective manner.
6. To participate in intra- and inter-departmental working parties and corporate groups across the MKS authorities.
7. To represent the MKS authorities as appropriate at external meetings.
8. To undertake other duties commensurate with the grade of the post.
9. To undertake any training and development as required.

Essential Criteria
Qualifications and Experience
• Qualified solicitor or barrister or chartered legal executive or equivalent experience.
• Legal practice experience in the field of Property and Regeneration.
• A track record of providing legal advice and support to customers in the subject area of property and regeneration law and practice.
Skills and Knowledge
• Knowledge and understanding of Property and Regeneration law and practice.
• A basic knowledge and understanding of the political nature of local government and democratic process.
• Able to demonstrate through previous experience the qualities and characteristics relevant to this post that are set out in the MKLS values.
• Good standards of written and verbal communication with demonstrable ability to communicate with elected members, senior managers and staff at all levels.
• Resilient and committed, remaining composed under pressure.
• Ability to respond efficiently to the changing needs of clients and competing priorities of the MKIP authorities.
• Ability to travel to attend offices of the MKS authorities wherever that office may be based.
• Ability to be available (i) to attend evening meetings at the offices of the MKS authorities and (ii) in the event of emergencies or urgent management issues in relation to the MKS authorities.
• Full driving licence.
Desirable Criteria
• Experience of advising at committees and member briefings on all aspects of property and regeneration law & procedures.
• Experience and knowledge of the law in one of the following areas - Contracts/Commissioning, Planning, Contentious, Corporate Governance.
• Experience of partnership working or working within a shared service.
• Experience of best practice, innovation and continuous improvement in the delivery of legal services.
