South London Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN) is looking for an enthusiastic Research Nurse to join the Agile Workforce team.

The Research Nurse will play a key role in ensuring that any research undertaken within the Care settings department safeguards the wellbeing of the patients and is conducted according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trial) Regulations 2004 and Amended Regulations 2006.

Working collaboratively with the clinical trials team and the wider multidisciplinary team in the management of research patients. They will also act as a patient advocate providing support and assistance as required and assist in the coordination and management of a portfolio of clinical research studies.

The post holder will be required to work flexibly across sites within the RDN: South London geography. The employing Trust will be Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

If applying as a registered nurse you must have appropriate UK professional registration.

The post holder will be responsible for delivering an agreed number of portfolios of clinical trials within the Secondary, Primary Care and Community settings across the South London region. We are recruiting for experienced band 6 nurses with a post graduate qualification in critical care to join RCN Team of the Year 2021 Winners, Adult Critical Care Unit at the Royal London Hospital.

We are very much on the frontline in London’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and are rapidly expanding our critical care capacity in response to demand in the capital. Our additional capacity will allow us support the backlog of complex surgical patients awaiting elective surgery alongside our trauma and emergency patients whilst continuing to care for patients suffering from Covid-19 and our staff will rotate in their teams across all of our critical care areas.

As the UK’s largest trauma centre our ACCU unit leads the trauma network for North East London and Essex. It is a leading specialist centre with an international reputation for caring for some of the most seriously injured patients in London and beyond. In addition to trauma the Royal London Hospital also provides specialist care in neurosciences, a hyper-acute stroke centre, and acute general medical, along with surgical and obstetric services.

Working within a highly skilled, dynamic multi-disciplinary team, in our busy 60 bedded Adult Critical Care Unit (ACCU), which accommodates both level 3 and level 2 patients. This is an excellent opportunity for, energetic, enthusiastic staff nurses with at least 6 months acute experience, to provide a high standard of care to patients within a challenging, yet supportive acute hospital setting.

Professional development is very important to us and we offer you the opportunity to undertake the band 5/6 development pathways, the critical care course, neurosciences critical care course/ILS/ALS, we are supporting a number of staff on their degree/masters pathways and in collaboration with City University an accredited Trauma Course in house.

As a proficient practitioner in critical care, the post holder acts as a professional role model and clinical teacher.

He / she also provides effective mentorship and preceptorship, participating in the education and trainingof nursing and non-nursing staff.

He / she also takes charge of the Intensive Care Unit as required, liaising closely with the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse with continuing responsibility

Following an assessment, to provide practical and recovery focused support to service users and carers as described in their care plan. Working with care coordinators or lead clinicians to provide clearly defined recovery focused interventions, in line with care packages. To attend and actively participate in team meetings/care plan review meeting and team training as appropriate. To positively promote and support independent living for service users in the community by maintaining extensive knowledge and links with the community resources and actively supporting service users to access them. To develop a rapport with service users based upon professional support and collaboration but within appropriate boundaries. To provide regular and practical support to service users and carers to maintain dignity and independence. To enable service users to acquire daily living skills: living ordinary lives (e.g. shopping and cooking). To help service users to gain access to resources to include benefits and welfare rights. To help service users to access information on health promotion. To help service users with gaining skills in accessing physical health services and monitoring their health needs in the community. To help identify early signs of relapse by monitoring the clients progress, level of functioning and mental state and updating the care coordinator or other staff involved in the care of the client. To support service users to develop self- management tools and coping strategies. To maintain adequate records as required by existing procedures; entering appropriate details in case records. To adhere to the Trust Risk Assessment Policy, escalating to senior staff without delay, any concerns around clinical risks for clients. To use electronic service user records to record care plans, pathway documents and progress notes appropriately and in a timely manner in accordance with the Trust Policy. Report, without delay any safety or security concerns to maintain the safety of service users, carers and staff and others to appropriate authorities and or/ organisations. To understand and contribute to the Trust Risk assessment policy, including being aware of the need to follow all safeguarding procedures : being aware of the need to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults at all times when working with service users. To adhere to the teams local Lone working policy To provide practical support in emergency situations as required by the care co-ordinator (i.e. arranging protection of property, transporting, arranging services, arranging protection of pets, collecting prescriptions, clothing) Contribute to the planning of protocols and developing the service to the clients as appropriate. To liaise and work in close co-operation with members of the Mental Health and LD and CBSS Management and other mental health professionals, and voluntary and private sector agencies as required To raise any concerns regarding service user care or service delivery.
