The successful candidate will:
• Have previous experience in an educational setting and working with children aged 4 to 11;
• Have experience of working with pupils with speak and language needs;
• Have experience of working with pupils with ASD or ADHD or emotional behavioural needs;
• Have the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with children and adults;
• Have had Team Teach training and experience of positive handling or a willingness to go on the training;
• Have knowledge of how/when best to intervene in children’s learning in order to help them progress;
• Have patience, resilience and a passion for the educational needs and development of happy and competent children;
• Be able to engage children both inside and outside of learning times and adaptability;
• Have knowledge and understanding of the requirements of Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults in the education sector as applicable to this role; and
• Possess a good standard of written/oral English and Numeracy skills.

The MPGS provides professional soldiers to meet armed security requirements at Royal Navy, Army, RAF and other MOD bases across the UK Mainland. Our primary role is to counter the terrorist threat posed to military bases within the UK.

Our duties include:

Security incident management - Such as suspicious packages, bomb threats, protests, etc.

Patrolling site perimeters - Taking necessary action to preserve perimeter security.

Controlling entry and exit - Managing control room and gate operations and ensuring all visitors are dealt with efficiently.

Military Working Dog services (at selected sites).

Our units are located at over 119 sites across the UK mainland. We have our own Military Local Service Contract which allows soldiers to choose where they wish to serve, providing there is a vacancy.

Requirements:

• Background - You must have at least 3 years prior Military Service, or be currently serving, in any arm of the British Military, regular or reserves.

• Age - You must be over 18 years and under 57 years of age at re-enlistment.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a committed and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant practitioner to join our team, providing key SEN support within the classroom on a 1:1 basis and working closely with other teaching staff to ensure provision is effective and that learning needs are met.

Job overview

As a Learning Support Assistant, you’ll provide personalised SEN provision on a 1:1 basis, supporting the pupil in accessing the curriculum at an appropriate level and adapting the learning to make it accessible for students with specific needs. This role also involves providing pastoral support, and you’ll monitor progress to feed back to the class teacher whilst working closely with relevant staff to ensure an individual can achieve to the fullest extent.

Job requirements


NVQ Level 3 or equivalent as a minimum

GCSE English and Maths at C grade or above

Experience of supporting pupils with SEN and utilising strategies to manage behaviours and meet needs, including supporting speech and language

Awareness of Child Safeguarding and the latest SEN policies to implement effective provision, including working with outside agencies to deliver EHCP provisions

Ability to effectively communicate on the pupil’s progress, with strong written and verbal communication skills

About the Role

DPST take a whole family approach and work flexibly with children in care in order to improve outcomes for our children and increase placement stability.

The team works creatively to provide a range of support, underpinned by a therapeutic and trauma informed approach, with the aim of ensuring our children are able to reach their full potential and thrive.

The main themes of the team’s work are:

• Working directly with children/young people and their carers, using targeted interventions, including with parents where children are placed with them, using a variety of resources and approaches, including joint work where appropriate.
• Assessing the needs of children, young people and their carers, in order to inform the planning and delivery of work that will meet the needs of children/young people, in order to sustain positive outcomes for them.
• Supporting young people making transitions, particularly when ‘stepping down’ from a residential placement, or rehabilitation home.
• Increasing carers’ understanding of therapeutic parenting and trauma informed practice.
• Supporting safety planning around a child or young person, by delivering strategies and interventions which address identified risk factors, and planning support that will meet the needs of an individual’s care plan.
• Regularly monitoring and reviewing the provision of work and making adjustments when required, dependent on the needs of children, young people and their parents/carers.
• Using a variety of methods and to help sustain improved outcomes, including putting parents/carers in touch with community groups and other services as part of a care plan.
• Advocating for children in care, ensuring their voices are heard, and their needs are fully met, both physically and emotionally.
• Building effective and positive working relationships with families, encouraging greater social inclusion and involvement in pro social activities.
• Planning, delivering and evaluating group work.

In order to achieve this, you will of course have support from your line manager, including regular supervision.

A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.

About You

To apply for this post, you must: have:

• NVQ level 3 in Childcare Diploma or Childcare Qualification, or evidence of continuing professional development.
• Experience of working directly with challenging children and young people, as well as vulnerable young people in at least one of the following settings: social care, education, youth offending or health.
• Knowledge of child development and an awareness of differing needs of children and young people and their carers, knowledge of other cultures, and have an understanding of the risk factors and prevention work that impacts upon children’s attachment, and presenting behaviours.
• Good time management skills, organisational and planning skills, assessment skills, IT skills, and a good standard of case recording and report writing skills.
• Ability to build trusting relationship with children, young people and their carers with ability to observe and analyse behaviours, their causes, and put forward solutions to problems using a solution focussed and therapeutic foundation.
• The ability to communicate confidently, respectfully and persuasively with children, young people and carers.
• Be accountable for allocated casework & Maintain concise and accurate records either electronically or in manual written case files.
