This role involves delivery of high-quality teaching of clinical skills to support the provision of training and supervision to our students.

Main duties and responsibilities
The person appointed will be responsible for teaching and assessment for the Optometry programmes. They will contribute to the design and delivery of learning and teaching materials (including assessments). The post holder will work as an integral part of the optometry and the wider team and be expected to develop and implement innovative teaching methodologies, which promote interest and enthusiasm amongst students.

Skills and experience required
Applicants must have experience in practice working in community, hospital or primary care with evidence of current clinical practice. Individuals should be a source of knowledge and expertise and possess specialist knowledge within an interest in various aspects of optometry. Proficiency in English Language, ability to plan and manage own activities effectively along with relevant IT Skills are essential.

Qualifications required
This appointment will be made in accordance with guidance from the GOC that the post-holder must have at least two years recent and relevant post qualification practical experience and maintained a minimum of two years continuous GOC registration. You must also hold a minimum of a first degree in Optometry. A teaching qualification or willingness to undertake a teaching qualification is essential. A Doctorate in a relevant discipline or a higher qualification such as from the College of Optometrists’ and/or Independent Prescribing is desirable.

We are seeking to appoint an individual to help expand our Pharmacology team and contribute to the ongoing development of our portfolio of courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level within the Department of Clinical, Pharmaceutical, and Biological Sciences.

The Pharmacology team is an integral part of the School of Life and Medical Sciences, and we teach across several important programmes including the BSc (Hons) Pharmacology degree, the MPharm degree, as well as contributing to several other undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. We are active in research, consultancy, and training and we were a valuable contributor towards our School’s successful 2021 REF submission. Our BSc Pharmacology degree is a popular degree within our School and is amongst the top NSS scoring degrees in this category (100% overall satisfaction, NSS 2022).

We are specifically looking to appoint an individual with an interest and expertise in neuroscience who will join our department at an exciting time for us. We have recently been awarded the opportunity to open a Medical School in collaboration with St Georges Medical School, University of London and we are also in the process of developing an MSc in Neuroscience. The successful appointee would play a key role in the development of both these new initiatives in addition to developing teaching material on existing programmes. We are keen to appoint a motivated and proactive individual with an enthusiastic approach to teaching and a strong focus on maximising the student experience and graduate outcomes. Main duties and responsibilities
To develop and deliver existing undergraduate and postgraduate modules on degree programmes within the School of Life and Medical Sciences. Skills and experience required
You will have demonstrable industry, Higher Education, and/or research experience within a relevant discipline related to neuroscience/neurobiology. Experience in teaching in Higher Education with an understanding of pedagogical principles would also be an advantage. You will have an understanding of the major subject areas related to teaching on Pharmacology focussed degree programmes to postgraduate level. You will have excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and organisational skills with the ability to adhere to tight deadlines. You will have demonstrable ability to undertake scholarly activities and/or conduct research in an area related to the department’s research needs.

Qualifications required
