MFL Curriculum Area Information

The languages curriculum area is a vibrant department with a longstanding history of excellence in the delivery of languages. Highcliffe School offers French and Spanish from year 7 to year 13 and students have the opportunity to study both from year 9 onwards.

The department is currently in the process of implementing EPI at Key Stage 3 and iscreating a bespoke scheme of work for our unique setting. With the introduction of the new specification for GCSE MFL, the department has made the decision to switch from Edexcel to AQA so that we are aligned with other departments in our trust. This facilitates the easier sharing of knowledge and expertise amongst schools. Students and teachers have access to Kerboodle (y10) and Active Learn (y11).

All teachers have their own classrooms with projectors and speakers and we also have two small rooms for small conversation classes. We are fortunate to have two permanent foreign language assistants who undertake small group work at KS4 and 1:1 sessions with our KS5 students.

The languages team run a number of extra-curricular activities, including a lunchtime Languages club for KS3 and a cinema club for KS4 and 5. About the Role:
In this role, you will support students aged 11-16 with special educational needs, including Autism. Working alongside our experienced teaching team, you'll assist both in the classroom and through hands-on outdoor activities such as Bushcraft and life skills. Your involvement will be crucial to their academic progress and personal development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide individualised support and ensure students' safety and well-being.
• Assist students in achieving goals set out in their Education and Healthcare Plans (EHCPs).
• Use positive behavior management strategies tailored to each student.
• Keep accurate records of incidents, accidents, and health and safety concerns.
• Promote positive social interactions and teamwork among students.

What skills and experience we're looking for

Harbour Vale School are looking for a Behaviour for Learning Lead. The successful candidate will oversee and manage the behaviour of students within the school. You will be responsible for implementing strategies and interventions to support students in developing positive behaviours and attitudes towards learning. Additionally, you will work closely with teachers and parents to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students. The ability to drive (and access to car) is essential for this role as there may be requirements in which you may need to travel.

What the school offers its staff

We are a pupil referral unit, and we educate students who have been permanently excluded or are at risk of permanent exclusion from mainstream education at Key Stages 3 or 4.

We also offer SEMH places at KS4, short term turnaround placements and medical places at both KS3 & 4.

We have a capacity of 38students,and this is growing each year. The need for specialist and PRU places in Dorset is increasing and with our new school buildings it is possible for Harbour Vale to grow and flourish to support children within our locality.
