At FUS, we only teach our students in separate sciences and believe that they should have access to teachers with specialisms and high quality subject knowledge.

We are seeking talented individuals who are passionate about delivering the very best experience to young people. We are currently looking for a Public Services Lecturer to join us on a full time, permanent basis.

This is a great opportunity for someone with previous experience in teaching Public Services and someone who is enthusiastic about the subject and is keen to learn. The successful candidate will engage and participate in advising and assessing students, preparing course material that accommodates the learning strategy of the college and participating in training and meetings where required. Experience in delivery of teamwork and leadership, emergency response, major incidents, understanding the third sector and front line services would be highly advantageous. The role will also cross over into aspects of sport, exercise and health; including nutrition and fitness & training.

This could also suit a candidate with a Sport or Public Service degree who can use transferable skills to work across the two sectors.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within an outstanding area of the college. As part of a well-established team, you will work closely with colleagues and students across both of our campuses, ensuring success for both college and students.

An academic background in Public Services is preferred along with a recognised teaching qualification, (L5 or above). As an outreach youth worker, you will be responsible for offering a range of support to Primary/ Secondary students, from a few hours to multiple sessions per week, during school hours.    

  

We are seeking individuals who share our passion for making a difference in the lives of young people by building a rapport with the young people to gain a good perspective of their day-today experience and support them engaging in positive activities.  You will be required to take the young person out into the community, build on their self- confidence, self - esteem, supporting with life and social skills. Support to reintegrate them back into an education setting.    

  

Provision is usually held at residential or within a community venue subjecting on the needs of the young person.  Engaging successfully with challenging young people, for example children who have complex needs, are reluctant to discuss their needs, and are unable to regulate and process their feelings.    

 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Offer a listening ear and provide emotional support to young people, helping them navigate difficult situations, such as family challenges, peer pressure, mental health issues, or academic stress. 

• Help young people develop key life skills such as problem-solving, decision-making, time management, goal-setting, and communication. 

• Foster self-esteem and self-worth by offering encouragement and helping them identify their strengths and talents. 

• Lead by example, demonstrating positive behaviours, values, and attitudes that young people can emulate
