Introduction
Working in Design Authority (DA), this post will focus on the provision of subject matter expertise for fire safety engineering and provide long-term assurance and benefits to Parliament.
As part of this role, you'll undertake a Building Management Systems (BMS) Apprenticeship at Level 4. We will enrol you onto the apprenticeship shortly after you join, and it will typically take 36 months to complete including the end point assessment. Performance will be reviewed and assessed at set periods throughout the apprenticeship.

Using skills gained in these areas, potential career progression is on offer within the House of Commons to become a full-time BMS Engineer at the end of the programme. You will also be able to apply for recognition as a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology or CIBSE and start working towards becoming a chartered engineer.
The Role
The Building Management Systems (BMS) Apprentice role has been created to provide a structured apprenticeship, with on-the-job learning, training, and experience. It will include immersive working and development within the DA as well as mentoring and opportunities to develop with experience across a variety of construction projects. The role will include the site visits and inspections in addition office-based tasks all with the aim of providing high levels of customer satisfaction with our facilities.

- GCSE (or equivalent) at A*-C/4-9 in English or a British Sign Language (BSL) qualification as an alternative to the English qualification for those whose primary language is BSL.
- GCSE (or equivalent) at A*-C/4-9 in Mathematics
- OR if you do not hold GCSEs Functional Skills L2 English and Mathematics
The following qualifications are desirable for this role:
- BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma MPP in an Engineering subject area or Construction and Built Environment area, or similar level 3 qualification.
- A Level at EEE - Must include Mathematics and preferably a Science in either Chemistry or Physics.
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
- Ability to demonstrate interpersonal and teamworking skills to build and maintain trusted relationships with a range of people, while promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Ability to apply range of analytical techniques to understand mathematical or engineering issues and propose solutions or options to address them. Be willing to develop IT skills on Microsoft and other programmes.
- Ability to demonstrate written and oral communication skills, with the ability to express information clearly and concisely and be able to understand the need of the customer.
- Be proactive and take ownership of tasks and issues. Ensure tasks are completed on time, to a high standard, and are prioritised effectively to meet objectives.
- Have a keen interest in Building Maintenance and Engineering, with a commitment to apply knowledge to real life situations and make sound decisions.
