Role Overview

To provide Mechanical Engineering support involving writing processes, plans and procedures in 3D Experience for the production of Satellites and payloads. Involved in supporting hardware assembly on the Satellite such as black boxes, Solar Array and structure panels. Supporting Satellite environmental testing at the test facility

*Candidates with prior Assembly Integration & Test experience would be of extreme interest*

Responsibilities

Project Preparation Phase

• Support to the customisation phase starting at the project kick off
• Support project DMU (Digital mock-up/design for manufacture) sessions to ensure design for manufacture
• Support in the creation of documentation required for the production phases, including ACS inputs, work instructions, and procedures
• Lead the installation of Satellite appendages and applicable integration flows and preparation.
• Support the definition of MGSE for use on the Satellite and support procurement activities
• Support Process Owner team in all aspects of their role

Project Operational Phase

• Support to Assembly Integration & Test (AIT) Lead Engineering team in periods of high workload
• Handling and installation of thermal hardware (heaters, thermistors)
• Mechanical integration of electronic units, subsystems and instruments, mechanisms, antennas, solar arrays, mechanical sub-systems, instruments, payloads and spacecraft and control the documentation / process associated with performing these
• Prepare and carry out environmental tests (Vibration, Acoustic, Mass properties, Thermal) at unit, subsystem, instrument and spacecraft level
• Support process owners with observation resolution and operational activities
• Oversee unit installation activities on the Satellite
• Support quality reviews, conduct PFMEA and Root Cause Analysis
• Support in the creation of re-work instructions based on project requirements and identify parts and tooling required to carry them out

Non Project

• Design of tooling / build aids for assembly execution
• Support to R&D
• Training module creation and maintenance.
• Responsible for ensuring that our working modes and processes are standardised, optimised, and current.
• Produce new processes, undertake process improvement and maintenance and monitor process implementation in operations.

Skill Set:

• Minimum of HNC level in a Mechanical discipline (a lesser qualification is acceptable if a high level of similar industry experience can be demonstrated)
• Prior AIT experience extremely beneficial
• Prior Mechanical experience from spacecraft or aircraft
• Previous experience in Integrating avionics on a spacecraft
• Familiar with handling and lifting large spacecraft
• System Test experience
• Hands on System level experience

Manufacturing Engineer Assembly and Integration

Responsibilities:
As a Manufacturing Engineer within the unit & missile assembly manufacturing facility your focus will be to ensure that our products are built efficiently and to budget. A key member of the Manufacturing Engineering team, you will carry out activities in support of multi-project manufacturing.

• Compilation and update of Manufacturing Instructions.
• Design, Commissioning and proving of associated tooling.
• Support the industrial validation process through the use of FMEA’s, FAI’s etc.
• Resolution of technical problems that may arise during the manufacturing process.
• Route card changes as a result or rework activities.
• Management of Configuration Control by the embodiment of Design Modifications into the Manufacturing Instructions.
• Support to the Non Conformance Process using SAP.

Role requirements (skills, training and qualifications)
• Formal technical Engineering/Craft Apprenticeship to NVQ Level 3/TR23/TR21.
• Formal further education certificate to HNC or equivalent certificate.
• 5 years’ experience within an engineering discipline.
• Have the ability to interpret Design Drawings with a view to producing Manufacturing Build Instructions for both Skilled and Semi-Skilled operators.
• Have experience of Electronic Sub Assembly manufacture through to System level builds.
• Have experience and knowledge of the assembly process for small/miniature Electro-Mechanical Actuation Systems.
• Must be able to work within, and contribute to a team environment.
• Recognise and understand customer requirements, and respond to them.
• Understand and work to Company Processes and Procedures.
• Have the ability to communicate both within the working group and at various levels of the organisation.
• Manual handling training.
• ESD training.

Role:

The role will involve issue, receipt and management of stores and inventory in a engineering stores environment. Loading, control and monitoring of work packages in a engineering manufacturing environment

Specific responsibilities include:

• Inventory control / storekeeping including shelf life control
• Handling and transporting inventory both on and off site
• Load the manufacturing cells with the requisite jobs in accordance with planned lead and cycle times, in order to comply with manufacturing programmes and delivery schedules
• Picking & Packing
• Despatch/dispatch duties
• including the use of hand tools
• Receiving and issuing of tooling
• Updating computer records, dealing with paperwork
• Kitting activity
• Loading and unloading of lorries

Essential Skills:

• Experience in a inventory, stores or despatch environment ESSENTIAL
• PC skills, including EXCEL
• Willing to work flexible shift patterns
• Attention to detail
• Work on own with minimal supervision

Desirable skills:

• Forklift truck licence
• SAP / Oracle / MRP and/or ERP experience
• Knowledge of Kanban and 2 bin systems
• Manual handling training
• Lifting & Slinging training (Including overhead cranes)
• ESD training
