Systems Safety Engineer
The Opportunity:
Are you looking for an opportunity to combine your technical skills with big picture thinking to make an impact in Nuclear Weapon System Safety? Our team analyzes and evaluates Air Force nuclear weapon system design to support nuclear safety and certification. You’ll leverage your expertise in system safety, applying scientific and engineering principles, criteria, and techniques to identify and assess weapon system safety hazards and inform nuclear design certification of these systems.
As a systems safety engineer on our team, you'll contribute to a dynamic team of government client and contractor staff while evaluating the comprehensive nuclear safety of the client's mission. You’ll work to develop contract deliverables, including Technical Nuclear Safety Analyses (TNSA), Independent Nuclear Safety Evaluations (INSE), and technical research papers. You'll analyze design data, develop written deliverables, and assist with presenting results and reviews of weapon system safety artifacts to verify compliance with applicable government requirements. You'll conduct these tasks following established plans and quality standards, with the freedom to improve processes and advance the discipline of nuclear safety.

You Have:
5+ years of experience in an engineering role
3+ years of experience with system safety engineering
Experience performing system safety analyses, including hazard analysis, fault tree analysis, probabilistic risk assessment, failure mode effects, and criticality analysis
Experience analyzing engineering data, including specifications, models, and drawings
Experience using Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Ability to communicate advanced concepts in engineering clearly and translate to non-technical individuals
Ability to obtain a security clearance
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or Engineering
Nice If You Have:
Experience with SysML
Experience with requirements traceability
Experience using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and SysML
Experience with explosive safety
Experience creating verbal and written communication products for clients, including analysis reports, presentations, and whitepapers
Knowledge of DoD and AF Nuclear Surety Policy
Possession of excellent leadership skills in a technical team environment
Master’s degree in Engineering

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $81,800.00 to $186,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
