About Us
The Traffic Operations Team is key to ensuring the smooth operation of the Highway network in Surrey. The team is responsible for the Design, refurbishment, operation and maintenance of over 850 Traffic Signals, CCTV cameras and other roadside intelligent systems, whilst also assisting in the management and operation of incidents and planned events that take part on the road network in Surrey.

Please note: This apprenticeship is only available for those who will not be enrolled in another government funded programme as of 1st September 2024 and do not possess a qualification at a higher or the same level as this one in the same subject.

About your Apprenticeship
We want this apprenticeship to be an opportunity for you to gain experience across a wide range of duties putting you in the best position to succeed in your apprenticeship qualification and take the first steps on your career journey! In this role, you will:

• Work as a part of a wider technical team
• Be part of the team delivering the £3m per annum refurbishment programme
• Be introduced to the systems used to develop, design and manage schemes, this will include training in specialist software packages including Autocad

This position offers the opportunity to develop technical skills in the world of Intelligent Transport Systems. After a period of suitable training, you will be required to attend site visits, contractor meetings, on-site commissioning, whilst developing the skills to eventually undertake the project management of your own signal refurbishment schemes. You will also be required to work with other areas within the team, to develop an understand of intelligent systems design and maintenance.

We won't be expecting you to jump in and be able to do this all from day one. You'll first go through an induction period allowing you to get used to the office and the team. As you progress through your course, you'll have 1 day per week to solely focus on your apprenticeship work.

As your qualification comes to an end and you begin to turn your eye to the future, we have a fantastic support programme in place that will put you in the best position to take the next step on your exciting career journey. Our desire is for all our apprenticeships to be the first step on a long and successful career journey within SCC. If you do not hold an English and Maths GCSE graded A-C or 4-9, you will be required to complete these in addition to the apprenticeship in order to achieve the apprenticeship qualification. Additional tutoring and support will be provided.

Your new company

You will be working for a leading civil engineering contractor with a busy 2024 ahead of them in the Inverness area. Joining them on a freelance basis, for an initial 6-month contract, you will provide expertise in your role as a Project Manager. With a start date of August 2024, you will join the project in the pre-construction phase and see it right through to handover.

Your new role

In your new role as a Project Manager, you will be involved in finalising the construction plan with the wider team and then taking a lead role in its delivery. You will be working as part of a team and displaying clear leadership skills as head of the project. You will manage health & safety across the project and work with site supervisors to ensure all operatives are adhering to health & safety standards and procedures on site. You will organise all direct labour, plant and materials for the project and work with the commercial team to procure them in line with company processes. On a day-to-day basis, you will manage subcontractors and track the project in line with the desired timeframe. Working closely with the Quantity Surveyor assigned to the project, you will proactively manage costs and risks on site.

What you'll need to succeed

In order to be successful in this role, you must have previous experience in a Project Manager role or Senior Site Agent/ Manager level. You will display excellent organisation skills and the ability to lead the site team. A background in civil engineering is essential, with a formal qualification such as a degree or HND in Civil Engineering being preferred. Ideally, you will have knowledge and experience of the construction of new roads and structures and an understanding of NEC 4 contracts. Previous experience of managing a project's programme in line with weekly and monthly priorities is key as you will play a key role in the successful delivery of the site. Managing labour and subcontractors and the ability to foster a safe and productive working environment will be key. You must also hold an SMSTS, First Aid and CSCS card.

Hold training sessions for new and old customers on products; Demonstrate and train customers on company products.
Ensure that the SLA for Remote Support is upheld: 4hrs in work time (08:00 to 16:30), 24 hours outside of those hours.
Contribute to change in the company's product range alongside the development and project engineering teams, based on real word findings, in the field.
Update, maintain, grow, and promote the company's Knowledge Base.
Perform hands on testing of company's equipment to strengthen understanding of the equipment and bolster documentation.
Create clear and precise “How to” guides and procedures for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the company's product range, prioritised by evaluation of real life enquires.
Generate diagrams, images, annotated photos and videos to bolster written documentation.
Assist in testing of new product developments, providing test data, reports and supporting information.
Self-starter with a keen and enthusiastic approach to delivering complete, documented, and polished solutions.
Mandatory Requirements:
Ability to clearly and professionally communicate within the team, adjacent departments, customers, service partners and senior management.
Strong fault finding ability in electromechanical equipment. (Motors, pumps, current loops, relays, wiring, switches, Logic, LANs, RS232 / RS485).

Are you a Building Services Engineer looking for varied reactive maintenance work across Guildford, Slough & surrounding areas?

Our client has over 25 years of experience within the building and facilities management industry and has some of the UK largest commercial clients. They can offer localised work, frequent overtime and additional training for those within the company.

You will be responsible for conducting maintenance and reactive carpentry & basic electrical works, plumbing, painting & decorating as well as other general building services tasks within a chain of retail stores across Guildford, Slough & surrounding areas. Additionally you will be tasked with attending call outs as part of a 24-hour rota when required.
