We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to Join our team at Crossness Sewage Treatment Works.

As the successful candidate. you will also be working in a multi-discipline team and will be responsible for carrying- out scheduled, unscheduled and emergency maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimise plant breakdown.

What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical & Electrical Technician

- Investigate plant failures and carry out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process.
- This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and carrying out repairs during incidents.
- You will be expected to provide technical advice, referring to up-to-date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees if required.
- Examples of equipment that you will be working on will be motors, gearboxes, screw /chain conveyors & centrifuges, various pumps, and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSD, automatic valves, flow, level and pressure measurement, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives and controls, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
- Participate in a stand-by rota following the relevant training.

Base Location: Crossness - Abbey Wood, Southeast London - SE2 9AQ.

Working Pattern 38 Hours Monday- Friday 7:30am – 3:36pm plus standby and overtime opportunities increasing earnings by potential £8-£10k per annum upon completion of essential company training.

All PPE, Tools plus the provision of a Van are provided with this role.

What should you bring to the role?

- You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems, working in a “true multi-skilled” capacity. Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering with an upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3 is crucial.
- 18TH Edition.
- Ideally you will have been upskilled with a mechanical qualification to allow inspecting, maintaining, fault diagnosing, testing, installing, modifying or repairing mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
- For individuals with mechanical or electrical experience only, we will look to develop the right people to dual skilled status.
- Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are crucial.
- The work will require physical fitness; as you will work in restricted spaces with successful completion of the appropriate training.
- A valid driving licence is essential and all necessary equipment such as vehicles and tools are provided.

Responsible for performing a variety of tasks to ensure the proper functioning and safety of the facilities andEquipment. You will also be able to carry out minor repairs and improvements to the building fabric, such as painting, plastering, carpentry, etc.


Inspect, maintain, and repair mechanical systems, Respond to requests and reports of faults or breakdowns from staff, clients, or contractors, and troubleshoot the issues in a timely and professional manner, Install new equipment and appliances, and assist in the setup of other systems, Conduct regular checks and tests of safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers, carbon monoxide detectors, emergency lighting, etc., and ensure compliance with health and safety standards and regulation, Keep accurate up to date records of maintenance activities, inventory, and spare parts, and report any issues or recommendations to the supervisor or manager. Follow a maintenance schedule and prioritise tasks according to urgency and importance. Use and maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment required for the role, and ensure they are in good working order and stored securely.

NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Plumbing and Heating (600/1122/1),
City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Domestic Plumbing and Heating - gas, fire, water and central heating appliances (600/1134/8),
City & Guilds - Level 3 Heating & Ventilating Installation (Industrial and Commercial) (100/3376/2),
City and Guilds NVQ Level 3 Heating and Ventilation (Domestic Installation) (100/3376/2),
City and Guilds NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering Services (Plumbing) (Q1027228),
City and Guilds - Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Plumbing and Heating - Gas Fired Warm Air Appliances (600/1124/5,
Working knowledge of tools, common appliances, and devices, and ability to use them safely and effectively.
