The Primary Care Mental Health Practitioner role supports the delivery of primary care mental health services within a Lancashire and South Cumbria Primary Care Network (PCN). As a trainee you will be based within clinical practice for the duration of the programme and will have study leave to attend University. You will rotate through different services within your speciality / service area (where applicable) and undertake block placements outside of your normal place of work, to gain a breadth of experience and skills.

Travel is required so you must be able to fulfil the essential travel requirements whilst on placement. You could be expected to travel up to 90 minutes each way to placement and work shifts and weekends.

You will need to demonstrate an understanding of mental healthcare and the role of a Nursing Associate and show evidence of being an effective communicator with the people you care for, their families and carers, as well as your colleagues and superiors.

You will need to be prepared to work hard and undertake study in your own time while on the programme; learning the fundamentals of exceptional care and developing your depth of knowledge around important aspects of both physical and mental health.

You will be a Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Nurse working within a multidisciplinary team and carry out a diverse range of duties in perinatal services on the Mother & Baby Unit at Chorley Hospital. This will include close working with midwives, health visitors, social workers and the ward based multi-disciplinary team. You will be given the chance to attend perinatal specific training aimed at enhancing your speciality as a perinatal mental health nurse. There will be opportunity in the future to rotate into our community team to gain further experience.

You will undertake a period of preceptorship overseen by a named Band 6 Nurse Specialist within your team and engage on the trusts Preceptorship programme.

You will actively promote teamwork, respect, integrity, accountability, excellence and compassion within the clinical team in accordance with the Trust values and Code of Conduct. You are required to maintain links with your professional body and provide evidence for the revalidation process.

You will be required to offer clinical and managerial leadership to junior Health Care Staff, Nursery nurses and Student Nurses as part of your role within the team. You may be required to take on tasks that require you to operate electronic staffing record systems, authorising periods of leave, sickness and absence for junior nursing staff.

You will maintain a positive and open attitude towards organisational change and service development.

As a Band 5 Staff Nurse within the team you will be regularly supported and supervised by a nominated Band 6 Nurse Specialist and you will be encouraged to take personal responsibility for clinical supervision and your continued professional development plan.

Applicants should be passionate about delivering a high level of individualised inpatient care, have excellent leadership skills and a genuine interest in perinatal mental health.

You will provide nurse leadership within the multidisciplinary team and ensure the effective assessment, formulation, planning and monitoring of care given to service users.

You will exercise professional accountability and responsibility using skills, knowledge and expertise in changing environments, across clinical boundaries and in unfamiliar situations as outlined within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

Care is provided over a 24 hours periods and all nursing team members work rotational shift patterns including days nights and weekends.

The 5% Salary Welcome Bonus package applies to this role. The bonus is only available for people who are not currently employed (or who have not been employed in the last 12 months) by any NHS provider trust in the Lancashire & South Cumbria Integrated Care System in a like-for-like role; e.g. a Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurse at another Trust in the LSC ICS would not be eligible for the bonus if moving to a Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurse role at LSCFT. Bank only workers for Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust are eligible for the scheme if they have not held a substantive role in Lancashire & South Cumbria Integrated Care System in the last 12 months (subject to all other terms and conditions being met). These incentives are subject to recovery clauses within the first 24 months of employment. This bonus is applicable to any successful candidate whose interview for this role is conducted prior to 30thNovember 2023.

The 5% Salary Welcome Bonus package is designed to attract and retain the very best staff in post. This scheme pays 5% of basic salary over 2 years in 4 instalments:
• % of basic starting salary after 2 months (counted from start date with LSCFT)
• 1% after 6 months
• 1% after 12 months
• 2% after 24 month
