The role will support the Business Unit Accountants across the division, you will assist the team in providing comprehensive financial support to our wide range of clinical and non-clinical services.

The Finance team have a hybrid working arrangement of a minimum of two days based in the office at the Royal Derby and Queen's Hospital Burton sites, and the ability to book additional days if required on either site.

The main responsibilities will be to produce accurate and timely monthly statements and to assist the Business Unit Accountant in investigating and explaining financial variances. You would be expected to work autonomously to understand the drivers of the variances, presenting them to clinical and non-clinical staff. Whilst actively seeking solutions and escalating those issues accordingly. This knowledge will be gained through regular meetings with budget holders working in clinical and nonclinical areas, which is key to the role.

Forecasting is an integral part of this role and you would be responsible for populating and presenting this to the Business Unit Accountant on a monthly basis.

Budget Setting is an annual process for this role, supporting the Business Unit accountant to determine the budget for the following year. Team work is essential in this role and when necessary to cover and support colleagues. Excellent people skills are a requirement when working with both finance and non-finance colleagues across the organisation.

The successful candidate needs to be hard working and dependable, have excellent communication and organisational skills and be able prioritise own workload to achieve deadlines. Also needs to be computer literate with a good working knowledge of Excel. A proven history of working in a Financial Management setting is essential

The duration of this post is 6 months from August 2024 with the possibility of extension upon departmental needs. This post is a pure 6 month neonatal paediatric post but the appointed is expected to join in all the postgraduate paediatric activities of the unit.

The post holder is responsible for the day to day of patients under the care of the consultants in the NICU, Labour Ward and on the post-natal wards thus experience is gained in the assessment and management of ill neonates within the neonatal unit and the normal and common problems of newborn on the postnatal wards. Daytime support and supervision is by consultants and one of the middle grade doctors who are assigned to the neonatal unit.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is recognised as a Local Neonatal Unit providing intensive care services within the Trent Peri-natal Network, undertaking medical neonatal intensive care. It has 24 cots including 7 designated for critical care and 17 special care, and is adjacent to the delivery suite and theatres, serving approximately 6000 births per year. There are currently 5 Consultants committed to the neonatal service, working ‘service weeks’ with a Consultant ward round each day.

There is a separate EWTD compliant SHO rota for the Unit including ANNPs and specific middle grade cover through the day and evening. Out of hours middle grade cover is currently shared with paediatrics with Consultant back up.

The appointee will work a full shift rota as set out in the sample timetable. This will form part of the rota with other junior trainees. It will include personal objectives, including details of their link to wider service objectives, & details of the support required by the doctor to fulfill the job plan & the objectives. It will be subject to review at appraisal.

Final timetable will depend on the interest of the candidate, 50% of daytime working will be within the area of interest. Out of hours working is based on a full shift rota with 6 slots covering nights on NICU, weekends and twilight shifts.
