An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Bart’s Health based primarily at our Royal London and St Bartholomews Hospital sites for the role of Medical Education Manager (12 months Maternity Cover). Main duties and responsibilities

Work closely with the other site MEMs, sharing good practice and lessons learnt to develop Medical Education across the Trust. To develop networks with other MEMs, external to the Trust, to seek ideas for innovation, overcome challenges and share good practice.
Responsible for ensuring the Induction of the medical students and postgraduate medical staff and that the Trust policy is adhered to. Working in conjunction with colleagues across the Trust to ensure the induction programme is delivered effectively and efficiently and that compliance with the Trust Statutory and Mandatory policy is appropriately recorded. To work with the Divisions to identify local leads with a responsibility to deliver local Induction for all junior medical staff.
To manage the relationships with internal personnel associated with the training of medical students and postgraduate doctors; this includes the College Tutors, Divisional Managers, Educational Supervisors and Clinical Supervisors and Clinical Leads.

To manage the relationships with external personnel associated with the training of medical students and postgraduate doctors; this includes the Commissioners, the Foundation School, Royal Colleges, the GMC and the providers of commissioned programmes.

To manage appropriate points of contact and support for medical students and postgraduate doctors which are clearly signposted. To deal with sensitive and confidential information and queries/issues in a timely and effective manner to improve situations which impact of the trainees/students learning.

The post holder will need to respond in a professional, and timely manner, to requests which come from the Education Academy Senior Team.

Staff Management and Leadership

To provide supervision and line management of the administrative staff at the site – including overall supervision, quality and performance, leave, appraisal and personal development and disciplinary matters.

The post holder will ensure all aspects of the Department run efficiently and effectively, including participation in the recruitment, selection and induction of the Administration staff, including temporary cover.

To manage the training and development of staff to ensure that cover is available for all areas; liaising with the other site MEMs and the Education Academy Team to enable cross site cover as and when required.

Educational Governance

Working closely with the DME and Risk Managers ensure that SI reporting is appropriately recorded at a Trust level and to the Postgraduate Dean.
Responsible for ensuring all training posts are notified of working with the Educational Leads ensure that the Trust maintains a high level of response rate to the GMC National Surveys. Responsible for circulation of the GMC NTS results and working with the Educational Leads and trainee to put together appropriate SMART action plans.

To ensure the Site supports the quality assurance processes of the Commissioners, including Annual Quality Visits, regulatory visits and visits of concern and any follow up action as required.

Responsible for managing and maintaining a database for all trainers on site and to liaise with appropriate teams for updates and reports as required. Working closely with the DME to ensure the site meets the requirements of the GMC Standard for Recognition and Accreditation of Trainers.

In liaison with the Education Academy Team and DME to provide training activities for faculty development, ensuring that external training provision is made available to faculty.

Meetings and committees

The post holder is responsible for ensuring the effective management of the annual programme of meetings, including timely distribution of papers.

To attend the MEM Senior Team Meetings and ensure regular local team meetings take place in order to disseminate information and pick up questions from the team.

Where appropriate to represent the Trust at external meeting and groups and to bring back key messages for dissemination to the wider team.


Responsibility for Patient care

Overall there will only be occasional incidental contact with patients, except when supporting the clinical teaching examinations for students and postgraduate doctors, which may involve patients.


Physical and Financial Resources

Manage the budget allocation for the Site and medical education programme activity, ensuring that suitable education and training resources and facilities are available to deliver the programmes


General Responsibilities

Guided by standard procedures, good practice and understands the standards and results that are to be achieved.

The post holder is required to manage and prioritise their own workload working with minimal supervision and using own initiative. In liaison with colleagues in medical education across the Trust to deliver the requirements of the role; where required to provide cover as necessary for colleagues in the department for leave and sick and when pressure of work requires.

The Head of Information Governance (Information Rights and Records Managementwill:

· Establish and maintain the trust as a leading provider for Information Rights And Records Management.



· Develop and deliver training and guidance specific to the context of the trust accounting for the new requirements and structures under the Health and Social Care Act 2012.

Accountable to the General Manager, and working in partnership with Service Directors and Matrons, the Deputy General Manager (DGM) will support in the operational delivery of Emergency and Acute services, focussing on delivery of the A&E waiting time standards, financial performance, governance, change and business development across the directorate. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring good governance and processes for monitoring delivery against all KPIs are in place.



The Deputy General Manager will play an important role overseeing development of the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) pathway, ensuring the smooth transition of patients between primary care, ED and Ambulatory Emergency Care (AEC). The DGM will ensure this is a seamless pathway at the CWH site and will line manage the Service Managers based within A&E and Acute Medicine to ensure continuity across the entire service within the Trust.



Ensuring the smooth flow of patients through A&E, for any acutely unwell patients requiring admission to an acute assessment unit, the DGM will be responsible for ensuring adequate levels of medical staffing with the support of a team of medical rota coordinators. Furthermore, the DGM will support in the development of strategic discharge pathways in collaboration with the site team.



The Deputy General Manager will work alongside the General Manager in the delivery of the

Directorate financial, quality, performance, productivity and workforce targets, agreed as part of the Divisions business planning, appraisal and personal development process. North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust is a medium sized District General Hospital based in Edmonton in Enfield, North London. We serve a diverse multicultural population largely from the London boroughs of Enfield and Haringey. This is an integrated role working across both health and social care which is jointly funded by the Royal Borough of Greenwich and Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust and is accountable to both organisations.

The Joint Emergency Team (JET) provides nursing, therapy, medical and social care crisis intervention, incorporating the 2-hour urgent community response (including the falls pick up service) and a virtual ward pathway supporting adults to remain in their home and avoid admission to hospital or care homes.

The team operates 365 days per year 08.00 to 20.30 receiving referrals from a range of health, social care professionals and triages, assesses, and delivers treatment and intervention to ensure the client / patient can remain safely in their own home.

The post holder will be responsible for the leadership management and development of the Joint Emergency Team as well as the Royal Borough of Greenwich out of hours service.





The post holder will be required to provide leadership and coordination of the team which includes the out of hour service of the Royal Borough of Greenwich (RBG) and will have a lead role in supporting the development and delivery of practice standards within the Urgent Community Response Service (UCR), the Falls Pick Up Service and the Virtual Ward. This will include operational leadership to the multidisciplinary team to ensure an integrated model of care is delivered.

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the team in relation to activity generated by referrals made to the MDT to ensure service outcomes and performance indicators are met.

Service and Project Management

· Responsible for the operational management and coordination of the core professional support and development services delivered across the workforce arm of the Medical Director’s Office, including medical appraisal and revalidation, job planning, and performance based reward schemes.

· To develop, establish and oversee the maintenance of robust and integrated service management and administrative systems and procedures to ensure efficient and effective operation of the services across the Trust.

· To plan and oversee multi-layered service improvement projects in response to performance indicators or changes in national policy or local requirements.

· To design and oversee the production of accurate and high quality reports and information on a regular basis in order to inform the strategic decisions and operational activities of senior management and the clinical workforce alike.

· To devise, adopt and implement any new reporting arrangements required by emerging national policy or local strategic or operational needs.

· To implement and manage agreed quality assurance systems and activities in line with national guidelines and to identify, plan and coordinate appropriate service improvement projects in response to performance across quality assurance metrics.

· To undertake additional research, audit and other project work linked to the managed services as directed by the Operational Delivery Manager.

· To monitorany internal fitness to practise investigation processes in response to GMC requests, including maintaining standards in process and good record keeping in line with GMC and local policy.

· To implement on the behalf of the Responsible Officer and MDO senior management team and lead on specific projects as directed.

Resource Management

· Responsible for the management of the service delivery team, including responsibility for training and development and performance management.

· Provide direction to the internal team to utilise their strengths and attributes to maximum effect to achieve objectives, ensuring they meet expected levels of performance and receive appropriate support and development.

Communications & Relationship Management

· To support the resolution of complex and sensitive issues where escalated by the service administrators, often acting as a mediator and providing expert advice where needed.

· To promote supportive and positive relationships between the internal MDO team and the medical and dental professional body at the Trust, running a service that is client focused and responsive.

· To draft and disseminate appropriate communications across the Trust, informing and engaging clinical and management staff with programme aims, progress and changes, and often dealing with complex and sensitive issues.

· To provide training to medical, dental and management staff across the Trust related to the professional requirements of medical appraisal, revalidation, job planning and performance based awards programmes, and the IT systems and processes in place to support staff in complying with national requirements.

· To provide management leadership in achieving service and programme aims through influence, negotiation and persuasion across diverse groups of clinicians, especially where colleagues are facing competing priorities in achieving professional regulatory requirements.

· Draft appropriate material for the MDO pages of the Trust intranet site and manage the team of administrators to ensure these pages remain up to date and relevant.

· Liaise with external bodies including the GMC, NHS England and the Royal Colleges in adopting best practice and complying with reporting requirements, as directed by the Head of Service

· Contribute to an aligned approach with colleagues across partner organisations within King’s Health Partners in the development of quality standards and the delivery of core services.

Information & Systems Management

· Responsible for proactively planning system changes to ensure that system inputs and outputs are designed to facilitate the Trust’s participation in and compliance with changes in national policy and reporting requirements, including interpreting new guidance and recommendations

· To ensure accurate and fit for purpose data management and reporting systems are in place to enable senior management to monitor programme progress and compliance with national standards, including key metrics in monitoring and evaluating the quality of the core services across the Trust.

Other Responsibilities

· To keep updated with developments, changes in legislation and updated national guidelines in relation to all medical workforce matters

· Ensure adherence to confidentiality of personal data in accordance with the Data Protection Act across all managed services

· Any other duties commensurate with the grade to ensure the smooth running of the Medical Director’s Office

· To adopt a team approach to their duties in close liaison with the senior members of the core team, human resources and clinical departments in enabling the senior team, on behalf of the Trust, to meet their obligations under the relevant legislation
