This is a fantastic opportunity for a hardworking and enthusiastic individual to join the Dermatology Administration Team at The Bristol Royal Infirmary in Bristol which is part of University Hospitals Bristol & Weston NHS Foundation Trust.

The role of the Fast Track Co-ordinator is to receive and process requests from diverse sources for appointments in outpatients. Most requests are referrals from GPs made via the eRS system. Requests need to be processed, according to NHS and Trust policies and targets making sure appropriate new patients are registered on the Bristol Cancer Register and hospital PAS system. You will also be responsibility for changing or cancelling appointments as required and adjusting clinics when directed.

The post holder will be responsible for providing information on a range of data as required by the outpatient management team and to assist the outpatient management team in meeting the targets of the Patient Access Policy.

The role of Fast track Booking Coordinator is to serve as a contact for patients accessing our services. The role is therefore responsible for setting high standards of patient care by enacting the Trust’s values at all times.

Communication:

• To support the triaging of referrals by liaising with key clinical staff

• Manage patient communications both via telephone and through Trust systems to create letters, emails and text reminders

• To act as a point of contact for queries from clinical and non-clinical staff

• Liaise with clinical and non-clinical teams across the Trust via telephone and email

• Escalate patient queries, capacity problems and general issues to the role’s line manager or relevant clinical staff as appropriate

• Communicate changes to clinics and appointments to patients as instructed, often at short notice

Patient Care:

•To show a caring and professional approach towards patients, relatives and carers. This may require acting with resilience to deal with sometimes distressed patients and relatives in a professional and empathetic manner

Organising and Planning:

• Implement the policy for patients who do not attend (DNA) their appointment

• To manage and monitor all outstanding appointment requests through the Trust’s Patient Administration System (PAS) and escalate any issues immediately to your manager

• Ensure clinic lists are effectively utilised in discussion with the appropriate clinician and manager, and rebook any cancelled appointment slots

• Attend appropriate meetings as required by the role’s line manager

Applications are invited to fill this whole-time Consultant Histopathologist post. Applicants should have an established or developing interest in GI and Hepatopathology.

This is a replacement post offering an exceptional opportunity to join a dynamic Cellular Pathology Service and to develop specialist diagnostic and research interests with the enthusiastic support of the corresponding clinical teams.

The department has recently implemented a digital pathology solution as part of a pathology network initiative and, once full roll-out is achieved, will provide opportunities for flexible working. Although this is an opportunity to fill a permanent position within the department, consideration will also be given to applicants meeting the requirements of the role wishing to take up the post on a fixed-term (minimum one year) basis.

For individuals taking up a permanent post, a Recruitment and Retention Premium up to the value of £20,000 is available to the successful candidate and additional assistance with relocation and accommodation is available.

The post-holder will join the team of specialist Histopathologists within the department who collectively support the clinical services in Bristol and Weston. The service is delivered from a purpose-built Pathology centre built on the Southmead Hospital site. The department continues to provide an Essential Services Laboratory at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.





The existing Cellular Pathology service was formed in May 2016 when the North Bristol service and the UHBristol service came together to provide a single service for Bristol. In April 2019, the work that had been delivered from Weston General Hospital also moved to this department. We provide cervical screening services to the South West region.

We, Severn Pathology, provide several services under one roof. Importantly, the Genomics laboratory Hub is co-located with the other pathology disciplines and is the lead provider of laboratory services for the South West of England.

Individuals wishing to apply must be registered Medical Practitioners (with a licence to practice) and on the Specialist Register of the GMC or be eligible to be on the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee. Applicants must also have Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists.

The successful candidate will be employed under Terms & Conditions of Service for Consultants (England) 2003. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our well-established Haematology Service in a newly developed combined cancer support worker and pathway navigator position. This role will be split into 3 days a week Cancer Support Worker, based with CNS team, and 2 days a week Cancer Navigator focus, based in the Haeamtology administration office.

Under the guidance and supervision of the CNS team and the management team, this combined role will facilitate and support:
• Care Delivery
• Communication and co-ordination
• Information and education
• Administration duties for the Haematology service



They will be part of the wider Haematology team, working closely with Haematology clinical nurse specialists, Haematology clinicians, diagnostic teams, Cancer Services, Haematology administration team and allied health care professionals.



The main purpose of the Cancer Support Worker/Navigator role is to work is to be an integral supporting part of the Haematology Specialist Nursing team, administration team and link with Cancer Services.



· Working alongside the Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists

· Coordinating care by providing a single point of access

· Triaging patients, using a risk assessment framework and initiate appropriate response according to protocols

· Undertaking individual holistic needs assessments and care planning

· Providing basic telephone and face to face advice and refer on or sign-post to other sources of support

· Coordinating any necessary assessments
• · Ensuring the management of patients is efficient and effective, taking into account the individual needs of the patients and the requirements of the service.

Under the guidance and supervision of the Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists and Haematology Support/Specialty Managers, assist in the coordination of patient care throughout the pathway:

To providegeneral informationand supportabout cancer and cancer services,to enable people to navigate the health and social care system and make choices that are best for their cancer and their life. A key aspect of the role involves daily and direct (e.g. face to face and telephone) communication with patients, relatives, carers, and other health and social care professionals. The information and nature of the communication required is sensitive due to the nature of cancer. Communication in this context requires a high degree of empathy, understanding, diplomacy, honesty and integrity.

· Triage patients, using a risk assessment framework and initiate appropriate response according to protocols and individual pathways, using good communication skills, basic clinical awareness and appropriate tools and procedures, liaising as appropriate when non routine and refer complex decisions to the team for assessment and review

· Provide basic telephone and face to face advice and refer on or sign-post to other sources of support

· Provide support to patients in the clinic setting when required

· Coordinate the necessary assessments, appointments or investigations to fast track people back into the system if required

· Demonstrate the ability to recognise and respond appropriately when faced with a sudden deterioration or an emergency situation, alerting the team or enabling rapid response as appropriate

To administratively coordinate patient pathwaysto ensure patients have timely review, and the service is compliant with national cancer targets.
• Develop an in depth knowledge and understanding of the pathway for Haematology patients; including an understanding of medical terminology relating to Haematology and Cancer.
• Where necessary to liaise with Clinicians and MDT coordinators/administrators both internally and outside of the Trust

· Work closely with the clinical nurse specialists to track patients throughout their cancer pathway and flag up any delays in the cancer patient’s journey. Ensure all outcomes of the MDT meetings, tests, investigations, and referrals are recorded and acted upon.

· To be proficient in the use of multiple hospital IT systems, including CRIS, CareFlow, ICE and Somerset Cancer Register.
• Support the Haematology administration team with typing and booking to ensure cancer patients are not delayed due to administration delays.
• Carry out some clerical duties to support the Clinical Nurse Specialists.
