We are looking to recruit a Medical Examiner Officer to support and develop the Medical Examiner Service, which is based at the Queen’s Hospital Burton site and the Royal Derby hospital site.

You will have highly developed communication and organisational skills which will have been obtained by working in bereavement, clinical or similar role which will predominately support the Medical Examiner in the scrutiny of deaths which occur in the hospital. An excellent understanding of medical terminology and the death certification process is essential.

You will be providing a professional, sensitive and compassionate service, dealing with bereaved relatives and aggrieved callers and be exposed to distressing and emotive situations. The role will require working closely with clinical and non-clinical staff, the Medical Examiners, Bereavement Office, and the Coroner’s Office. The role is primarily based at the Royal Derby Hospital, but you will be expected to work flexibly between sites as the service requires.

Advanced IT and literacy skills and experience of using a range of IT applications will be required. Applicants will be required to have completed the Medical Examiner Officer Core e-Learning modules prior to appointment.

Applications are invited for a Speciality Doctor in Microbiology at University Hospitals Derby and Burton NHS Trust (UHDB) to join the current team of Microbiologists. This is post will support the expansion of the current infection service including both the Derby and Burton sites.

The post holder will be expected to participate with the current medical staff in the provision of an infection consultation service, infection rounds on specialist units, the interpretation of laboratory reports and the infection service.

Team deliver leadership for

Main Clinical Activities
• Liaison and ward/department visits to discuss individual clinical cases and infection prevention and control issues within the hospital

Job Plan

The post is for 12 months with duties at the Royal Derby Hospital. This is a service post and the appointee will be expected to cover accompanied and un-accompanied daytime elective lists in line with their training level.



The post includes supervised and solo work in a range of settings where regional anaesthesia takes place, including in elective and emergency Hands, Orthopaedic and general theatres.

In addition, sessions will be allocated across other specialties invariably requiring other regional anaesthesia or invasive techniques. Solo lists may also be allocated.

The appointee will be expected to work as part of a team with a responsibility to maintain the highest standards of anaesthetic clinical care. Clinical Measurement at the Royal Derby Hospital is a busy diagnostic department, with several disciplines operating within it including Cardiology, Respiratory and Sleep, Gastric and Neurophysiology. University Hospitals of Derby and Burton comprises of our main sites; the Royal Derby Hospital and Queens Hospital Burton, as well as community hospitals and three CDC hubs also serving our community.

We are looking for a Cardiology trained, Senior Assistant Physiologist (band 4) with experience in the following: Assisting in exercise tolerance testing; including myocardial perfusion testing, head up tilt table testing; including active stand and autonomic function testing, 24/48 hour ambulatory ECG analysis, event recorder analysis as well as routine non-invasive diagnostic procedures including but not limited to ECG, ambulatory ECG and ambulatory BP. Experience in editing MUSE would be advantageous. The post holder is also required to support the pacing team in facilitating pacing transfers from other hospitals.

Applicants should hold the Diploma in Electrocardiography and have a minimum of 18 months experience working as an Assistant Physiologist in Cardiology performing a range of non-invasive diagnostics.

This post will be based at the Royal Derby Hospital however rotation to Queens Hospital Burton, as well as our CDC's will form part of the working week.

Working with adults and paediatrics in a range of in and out patient settings performing non-invasive cardiac diagnostics as well as supporting the Clinical Physiologists makes up the majority of the role.

Analysis is also a key component as well as training and assessing staff from around the Trust in 12 lead ECG recording.

You will be required to help with any administration duties as required within Cardiology services.

This post would be considered as a developmental post and as such, consideration would be given to applicants who do not hold the Diploma in Electrocardiography however, 18 months experience working as an Assistant Physiologist is vital. It would be expected that the Diploma is sat within the fist 6 months of appointment.

Supported time for non-clinical activities and CPD will be provided, approximately 44 days per year (averaging 1 day per clinical week), allocated around on call shifts and with agreement of the rota coordinator. A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.


We are looking for a Locum Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine, with additional interest in Anaesthesia. Applicants will join an established, enthusiastic team of 10 Consultants in Intensive Care Medicine to develop an expanded Consultant workforce, which will allow us to deliver a number of service improvements.

We are a 20-bed mixed-dependency unit admitting 1200-1400 patients per year from a variety of specialties, including a regional gynaecological cancer service, maxillofacial surgery, urology and vascular surgery.

The unit is supported by a 16-bed Surgical Step-Down unit, staffed by the Department of Anaesthesia, which admits higher-risk patients during the perioperative period as well as a respiratory support unit and a medical high-dependency unit. We are also well-supported by the Critical Care Outreach Service and a dedicated team of Specialty Doctors and Associate Specialists. Our existing Consultant team have interests in echocardiography, ultrasound, medico-legal issues, and high-fidelity simulation. We are fortunate enough to have a simulation suite within the ICU.

This is a 12 month fixed term post commencing in January 2025.

The Adult ICU at the Royal Derby Hospitals a new, customised PFI build with 20 beds rated Good in a recent CQC report. We admit over 1200 patients per year with a 60:40 split of medical to surgical admissions, 90 % of these being emergency admissions. We are a busy general ICU. The hospital provides a tertiary support service for hepatic and renal patients and in addition offers primary coronary angioplasty. We have a purpose built ICU with state of the art ultrasound, echo and imaging hardware and software. We are accredited for advanced training in Intensive Care medicine.

We introduced point of care echocardiography into our ICU 7 years ago and have developed a comprehensive echo service for our unit. We have two echo machines on the unit with TOE and TTE capability. In addition we have Echo PACS available on the unit to review all existing scans. We have a TTE and TOE high fidelity simulator that we use for staff training and to help deliver our nationally advertised ICU echocardiography course.

ICU consultants will have office space on the unit and there is shared secretarial support.

We are looking for an Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner with the experience, knowledge, and skills to undertake the role and responsibilities required to support the Tier1 medical rota.Successful candidates will work collaboratively with Consultant and multi-disciplinary team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures, and providing nurse leadership as required.

The ANNP team have protected time to develop skills and deliver improvements across the four pillars of advanced practice, whilst being supported by a Lead ANNP to ensure career development. There is also the opportunity to progress to working on the Tier 2 medical rota. Each of the ANNP team collaborates and supports each other, and supports the training of our new trainee ANNPs. You will also receive ongoing support and mentorship from the neonatal consultant leads

This role will be based at both Royal Derby Hospital and Queens Hospital Burton. Cross site working is expected.



Neonatal services at UHDB are provided across both the RDH and QHB sites.

RDH NICU is a 24 bedded Local Neonatal Unit providing 3 ITU, 4 HDU and 17 special care; QHB NNU is a Special Care Unit providing 8 cots – 1 HDU and 6 Special Care plus stabilisation facilities . Both units form part of the EMNODN.

Both units work closely together to develop a wider service that encompasses the needs of our community. Across site we care for babies over 27 weeks gestation requiring all levels of care. We pride ourselves on our excellent standards of care and facilities. We have an open, honest and caring team approach, supporting Family Integrated Care and the encouragement of parents and families to be involved in the care of their baby from the beginning of their journey on our unit.

Families have access to an extensive Allied Health Care support team. There is a dedicated Paediatric Clinical Education Team who support the education and training of all nursing staff.

Applications are invited for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Respiratory Medicine at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation, until August 2025.

The successful applicant will join a large and dynamic team of 23 Consultants providing a comprehensive Respiratory Service to Derby, Southern Derbyshire, Staffordshire and surrounding areas.

The Royal Derby Respiratory Unit delivers high-quality sub-specialty services including lung cancer, COPD, asthma, ILD, bronchiectasis, tuberculosis, and sleep/NIV.

This is a replacement post that will support the pleural and lung cancer services. The Clinical Fellow will be responsible, under the direction of the consultants, for delivering inpatient care, day case pleural activity, out-patient clinics and medical student teaching. In addition, they will gain experience in EBUS and thoracoscopy in a centre which performs over 180 of these procedures per year.

On-call commitments includes evening and weekend cover within the respiratory and medical HDU rota.

We are looking to recruit two Bereavement Officers to join the Bereavement Team on a fixed term/secondment basis, this will be based at the Royal Derby Hospital but with regular cross-site working between there and Queens Hospital, Burton. This will be dependent on work load.

The Bereavement Officer supports the Senior Bereavement Officer to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the Bereavement office. This post will ensure that they are providing a professional, compassionate and high quality service for relatives of the deceased patients in accordance with national legislation and Trust policies.

The Bereavement Officer will support the Senior Bereavement Officer to be responsible for undertaking administrative duties associated with the completion of medical (death certificates) in liaison with stakeholders.

The Bereavement Officer will need to ensure that doctors complete the appropriate legal documentation promptly and accurately and provide advice, support and information to facilitate this.

To ensure that newly bereaved families understand the procedures for the registration of a death and provide support in a sensitive and caring manner. To provide cover for the Senior Bereavement Officer during any period of absence.

To establish and maintain partnership working with agencies, such as the Registrar Service, Coroner’s office, funeral directors, as well as internal services including chaplaincy, mortuary staff, clinical and non-clinical staff.
