Medical services Based in Sheldon/Kenyon ward on Mondays to Fridays 09:00 17:00. There are no on-call duties but will involve day-to-day in-patient care including: - Clerking of admissions - Assessment and formulation of management/discharge plans in conjunction with the MDT - Mental capacity assessment - Management of acutely deteriorating patients - Palliative care - Meetings and case conferences with families. All the doctors working within the Medical Unit will work as a TEAM. Flexibility in cross over arrangements is expected at times of annual leave, sickness and study leave, or any other absences of colleagues. Undertaking supervision of junior doctors with the care and management of patients on the medical wards or outlying wards. Providing cover for general ward duties eg when trainee doctors obligatory training coincides with other medical staff commitments. Assisting with inpatient or day-case patients for intravenous therapies (supervision and prescribing) or specific endocrine tests; liaison with nurse practitioners involved.

Manage own workload in a designated highly specialist area without supervision as appropriate using all forms of knowledge, skills and experience required in order to be able to undertake the duties competently. To demonstrate a complex level of communication and relationship skills promoting and maintaining effective liaison throughout the Unit team and with the wider multidisciplinary team. Ensure the Health and Safety of all staff, patients and visitors. Reporting all incidents/accidents/near misses to the team leader. Document and monitor the safe use of equipment and economic use of supplies. Provide accurate and timely collection and submission of appropriate Theatre activity data, using appropriate manual and computerised systems. To ensure safe quality care is provided for patients within the Unit as Trust and Unit policy. To maintain an understanding of and adhere to all Trust and Unit policies and procedures and ensure attendance of mandatory annual training e.g. Fire, Manual Handling, CPR etc. To have an understanding of Risk Management and to participate in the identification/analysis of risk.
