Older People’s Mental Health Consultant Psychiatrist in the Rotherham Community Mental Health Team. The successful applicant will be one of two full time consultants providing day to day medical support to the Older People’s Community Teams in Rotherham (two consultants in total). There are two teams, North and South. This vacancy is for the South Team. The base for this team is at Swallownest Court in Rotherham. There is easy access to the M1 motorway, and it is a 20 minute commute from Sheffield.

The post-holder will be expected to support the multi-professional teams to determine need and deliver care across the range of community and care settings served by the mental health teams.
• The post holder is expected to work in both organic and functional aspects of mental health services for older adults.
• To provide medical leadership, consultation, advice, and guidance within the Community Mental Health Teams, ensuring that care and treatment are safe and effective, efficient and within national guidelines.
• To provide medical assessment, diagnosis, and formulation to appropriate patients. On completion of assessment, advise on diagnosis and treatment within the teams and to external service providers.
• To provide medical care to patients with severe mental health problems requiring enhanced care coordination.
• To liaise, advise and consult with hospital doctors and primary care clinicians on diagnosis, treatment and management of patients.
• To conduct assessments and make recommendations under the Mental Health Act.
