First Steps Nursery is a purpose built NHS workplace nursery for staff working for East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. A brand new build has been built onsite at the Conquest Hospital and opened in January 2022. The nursery provides full day care for 56 children a day aged 4 months to 8 years.

We are looking to recruit a nursery practitioner to compliment our existing experienced team.

The successful candidate will need to hold a minimum NVQ level 2 in Childcare & Education (or equivalent) and have had some work experience with children under the age of 5 years.

To plan and execute and evaluate the education / play programme appropriate to age of child within the childcare provision (registered from 4 months 8 yrs.) following the national framework for foundation stage

Provide appropriate play opportunities and interact in a positive manner with the child/ren whilst in our care.

Assist in setting out rooms with toys and arrange furniture to enable children to access them.

Communicate effectively and with added detail to enhance child’s language and learning opportunities on one to one basis or within a group.

Communicate effectively to parents/carers and with concise detail about their child’s day ensuring good practice of shared information, which will benefit the child and parents/carers

Work within the framework of the nurseries behaviour management procedures when needing to discipline children.

The proposed timetable will contain six DCC sessions, including two sessions (1 day) of anaesthetic provision within the maternity unit.

At the Conquest Hospital there is a consultant-led maternity unit where doctors, including anaesthetists, are available 24 hours a day. Anaesthetists provide epidural analgesia, and support assisted and emergency births. There is a Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU). The Buchanan delivery suite has ten rooms, one main operating theatre and two recovery beds. There is also midwifery-led unit at Eastbourne District General Hospital. There were nearly 4000 births in 2023, of which 400 were elective caesarian sections and 600 carried out as an emergency. The anaesthetics department provides a consultant-led high risk obstetrics clinic once a week.

The Anaesthetic department covers two acute hospitals Conquest Hospital, Hastings and Eastbourne District General Hospital and the successful will be expected to work cross site.

Job plan and duties

The successful candidate will have a job planning session after 3-6 months of being in post to review their timetable and SPA (supporting professional activities). The 10.75 PA (programmed activities) job plan will incorporate 1.5PAs of SPA (1 timetabled SPA session per week, and 0.5PA additional SPA). Ensure payroll deductions, salary sacrifice amounts, business mileage are administrated via ESR and liaise where necessary with ESR or the lease car provider.

Design and maintaintheledgersystem'scodingtoaidtheproductionofthecharitable fundsaccountsinaccordancewiththeCharityCommissionsguidance.



Develop and maintain a trainingprogrammeforfinanceandnon-financestaff,ensuringstaffarecompetentandwellinformedwithregardtoCharitable funds.

Raise profile of the Charitable funds, produce and update charitable funds handbook & fundraising policy.

Implement, develop & maintain staff lottery draw, including staff lottery constitution & procedures. Produce staff lottery reports to Charitable Funds Committee and incorporate in Charitable Funds Annual Accounts.

Co-ordinate the pool car fleet to maximise the benefits to the Trust and users.

Maintain the Lease car policy with Trust & legislation changes.

Co-ordinate & manage the Trust & LLP fuel cards, develop & maintain a pool car & fuel card handbook for users.

Monitor the workload ofthedepartment through reviewofsystem reports. Implementationofnewworkingpracticesin ordertomaximiseefficiencyandto ensure that Statutory and other Departmental targets anddeadlinesare met.

Preparemonthly/ periodic returns e.g. toCharityCommission,Monitorin accordance with the relevant bodiestimetable.

Ensure data is input with accuracy including monthly cashbook and adjustment journals to obtain the charitable funds monthly and annual finance position.

Extraction of data with accuracy & present in a meaningful manner.

Ensuring all work and contract with third parties is to professional standards, and that full regard is given to confidentiality.

Vetting approval of charitable fund requisitions in the Oracle procurement system.

Tomaintaincharitable fundscontrolaccountreconciliationsand ensuretheaccurateand timely completion for the provision of closedowninformation.

Produce Commercial van quotes, place orders and arrange delivery and insurance cover.

Work with insurance providers to arrange Commercial Insurance policy, Goods in transit, public liability (income generation), Group personal accident and Directors & Officers Insurance (Charitable Funds).

The postholder will be required to produce reports for the Charitable Funds Committee as and when required and fund holders on a monthly basis.

The postholder will assist will provide information to internal and external Auditors as required.

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust is recruiting a general paediatrician to join our team. This is an exciting time to join our department, as part of an integrated trust which also delivers community paediatrics and health visiting, creating exciting opportunities to develop new models of care. We are also piloting integration with primary care, and successful applicants will be encouraged to develop this work. There are also opportunities to work with the Emergency Department.

The successful candidate will contribute to a 1:10 hot week/on-call rota and be expected to develop or maintain a special interest complementary to our department’s needs. Additionally, we are looking for individuals who can provide clinical leadership, driving forward initiatives and improvements within the department.

We welcome full-time or part-time applications and are committed to flexible working, with some sessions being delivered remotely.
