Assistant Finance Business Partner - Fixed Term 12 Months

This is an important role that is key to the success of both the Divisions and the organisation. The post holder is expected to work at a high level in the organisation demonstrating credibility with the Divisional Management teams, Head of Service and Clinicians at all levels.

Reporting to the Finance Business Partner, the post holder has the following key areas of responsibilities: -
• Preparing and submitting a monthly Management Accounts Pack to the Finance Business Partner and to budget holders, together with a commentary to accompany monthly management accounts.
• Designing, producing, and maintaining budget reports and other spreadsheet-based reports and models in accordance with agreed timetables and departmental policies and procedures.
• Preparing monthly variance reports for specific departments within a division, investigating any variances from the plan and identifying mitigation strategies.
• Meeting regularly with budget holders and providing information and analysis to them regarding their budgets.
• Supporting all the relevant budget holders in the preparation of their annual plan including provision of analysis and projections.

• To produce monthly management accounts which have integrity and support Directorate individually, and consequently the Trust as a whole, in achieving their financial objectives.
• To be the key support for the Finance Business partner on all aspects of financial management within the Division in conjunction with the Divisional Operations team.

• Support the Finance Business Partner in improving links between activity, capacity and expenditure, in order to develop Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) to inform decision making and inform financial plans and forecasting.
• To produce ongoing advice to budget holders on managing and understanding their expenditure variances and ensure by persuasion, negotiation and effective process management that corrective actions agreed by Division and individuals are delivered within the agreed timescales

• Provision of cover for Consultant colleagues’ periods of leave in accordance with arrangements agreed within Trust policy.
• Participation in clinical audit and in continuing medical education.
• Conducting suitable duties in cases of emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
• The post holder will not participate in an out of hours consultant rota, detailed within the job plan section

Management and Leadership Responsibilities:

All staff in each Division are managerially accountable through their Lead Clinician to the Associate Medical Director, who has overall responsibility for the services within the Division. Consultants are key members of the Division and are accountable and responsible for leading changes to service that will improve the patient experience.
• To support the Clinical Lead in policy and strategy development as a senior member of the Division Management Team.
• To contribute to the leadership and development of Services under the direction of the Clinical Lead and Associate Medical Director and in line with the Trust’s business plans.
• The post holder will ensure effective communication and involvement of staff across the Division including support to the Divisional Director to achieve their objectives.
• Work in partnership with colleagues in other Divisions within the Trust.
• As part of the Division Management Team, assist in the cost-effective utilisation of resources, including pay and non-pay items such as equipment and drugs, within budgets.
• Work within the Trust’s framework for Clinical Governance and Risk, including the development of clinical policies and adherence to standing orders standing financial instructions and financial procedures.
• Undertake direct supervision of junior colleagues and participate in departmental/trust wide teaching programmes.
• Undertake investigations and report writing for incidents and participate in clinical risk management
• Appointed candidates will embody the STAR values and use the principles of the NHS Constitution for England to guide decisions



Appointment to this role attracts a one off recruitment premium of £20,000. The recruitment premium will be paid in two instalments, £10,000 in the first month of employment and a further £10,000 on the 1st anniversary of the start date. Should a candidate receive the recruitment premium and leave within 5 years of joining the Trust, there will be a requirement to pay back all or part of the payments depending on time served.

For clarity on the repayment values, the day prior to the anniversary of start date will be the end of each year period, with the anniversary itself being the start of the new year period as defined below:

0-1 Year – Initial £10,000 Y1 instalment pay back

1-2 Years – £15,000

2-3 years – £10,000

3-4 Years – £5,000

4-5 Years – £2,500

This role is a new consultant post within the Emergency Department; the appointed candidate(s) will join an existing team of 16 senior medical staff including Consultants & SAS doctors. On joining the department,

We are a large District General Emergency department seeing a broad spectrum of patients and
presentations. We have a collocated Urgent Treatment Centre for minor illness and injury management as
well as an observation ward supported by 24 hour mental health liaison service. We have a large team of
medical, nursing and allied health care professionals providing a high quality efficient service for our patients allowing us to have flexibility in avoiding admissions where possible.


We have a strong collaborative relationship with Acute Medicine, working together to improve quality and flow for patient care at the front door.


The successful candidate will provide general clinical ED sessions and senior input into patient care, ensuring appropriate discharge and hospital admission, along with management and leadership

Great Western Hospital is a growing Trust providing an increasing range of surgical procedures to its local community. The hospital is therefore appointing a sixthConsultant Urological Surgeon.

The successful applicants will join a team of five established Consultant Urological Surgeons and one Associate Specialist.

There is one urology specialty registrar from the Southwest rotation and two clinical fellows. There are three urology oncology specialist nurses, a urodynamic nurse and an active research team. Oncology cover is provided by the Oxford oncology department who are now able to provide radiotherapy onsite in Swindon as the new radiotherapy unit has just opened.



The postholder will be expected to provide an across the board core adult urological service and develop a specialist interest to complement with the rest of the department.

The Post holder will be expected to provide elective services such as outpatient clinics both at Great Western and at some peripheral community hospitals, and elective inpatient and day-case operations.The successful candidate will also support the hospital’s new care pathways and will take part in the Consultant of the Week rota that provides care for all urology inpatients and offer telephone advice to the on call surgical team out of hours. Occasional out of hours attendance may be required.



The post will proactively support, participate and contribute to the delivery of safe inpatient care and support the relevant teaching and training of both undergraduates from Oxford and Bristol Universities and junior medical staff.

The urologists are supported by an excellent anaesthetic and radiology department, the latter including interventional radiology and weekly uro-radiology x ray meetings. There is a weekly MDT.
