Deputy Food Retail Manager
A busy not-for-profit organisation has a rewarding opportunity, in an unusual food retail setting. The role supports, and provides cover for, our Food Hub Manager.
Foodkind is an environmental organisation which collects surplus food from supermarket partners to share with the public. From our Northampton hub we run a community store (Shop Zero), prepare emergency food parcels and support charitable organisations with food. Training in safeguarding and H&S is provided.
This role will help ensure our volunteer workers are supported; that the projects run efficiently to the highest standard of food safety and that our hundreds of clients are supported during the cost of living crisis.
Full time but part-time hours can be considered for a candidate with the right experience. Remuneration based on experience.
The Role
● This is a physically demanding role to process incoming food deliveries, sort food for the shop and deliveries out and keep the shop well stocked.
● Ensure our hub is run safely and securely for volunteers and the public.
● Help update and follow our risk assessments and compliance records.
● Understand the importance of food chain of custody and allergy information.
● Guide and train volunteers of all backgrounds and help manage the rota.
● Maintain an inclusive and welcoming approach in our charitable community.
● Follow the processes with regard to waste management, freezer/chiller temperature regulations and other tasks to maintain our high EHO rating.
● Help interview new volunteers and help manage the volunteer database.
● Assist with social media posts for our shop sessions.
● Oversee management processes.
● Be prepared for Christmas/New Year to be the busy season for surplus food.
● Advise the governing board on any updates or concerns about the CIC.
Essential Experience
Food retail experience.
Demonstrate understanding on food safety and allergy issues.
Management of other people in previous or current roles.
Be prepared and available to work over the seasonal period.
IT literate, able to perform basic database and social media tasks.
Helpful Experience
Volunteer management or previous third sector experience (either professionally or your own volunteering role). Understand food waste and environmental issues.
