We are looking for a suitable candidate to work alongside our team of medical and clinical oncologists.

The post holder will join our team of medical and clinical oncologists providing Oncology services from an West Kent base. We have a well-established oncology research department, providing the opportunity for the post holder to run and develop clinical trials.

Locum Consultant in Medical Oncology, to provide a high standard of care to any patient for whom you have clinical responsibility. This will include any patients referred to you and cared for by you personally or by members of your team and, in addition, any patients of consultant colleagues when you are covering on-call or for annual leave.

To participate in clinical and other service activities and developments with the aim of ensuring a high standard of patient care across the Trust.

To work in close co-operation with other medical, professional and managerial colleagues, both within and outside the specialty, to provide high quality health care to the Trust’s patients, and to make a contribution to future thinking about the Trust’s strategic direction.

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust was formed in April 2000. It consists of two District General Hospitals based at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells providing services to approximately 450,000 people living in Maidstone, Tunbridge Wells, East Sussex and the surrounding areas.

Its major hospitals are The Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury near Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone Hospital. The Kent Oncology Centre in West Kent is based at Maidstone Hospital. The Trust manages the Oncology centre based at Maidstone and Canterbury. These services form an integral part of Kent’s Cancer Services.

The Trust provides general hospital services to a population of approximately 460,000 in West Kent and North East Sussex, and some specialist services to a considerably larger population.

The Trust’s Chair is Ms Annette Doherty, the Chief Executive is Mr Miles Scott and the Medical Director is Dr Sara Mumford. Clinical services are organised into nine clinical directorates. The Clinical Director's of the Kent Oncology Centre is Dr Kannon Nathan & Dr Timothy Sevitt. The Director of Operations for the Division is Alice Farrell, and the General Manager for Oncology is Grace O'Driscoll.

Duties of this post will be to support the consultant service across a range of tumour types:

Attending Consultant led out-patient clinics (both in the Centre and Peripheral Clinics), and undertaking related admin and chemotherapy prescribing.

Supervision of SHOs and ward patients.

Review of patients attending for chemotherapy and radiotherapy if required by nursing or radiography staff.

Teaching of SHOs and medical students.

Involvement in clinical governance and audit activities.

You will be part of a close, dedicated team working with Pharmacy and Research Staff in an essential role to help minimise waste and improve medicines efficacy with our high cost cancer drugs.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Clinical Trials Dispensing Assistant Technical Officer. Clinical trial experience is not essential for this role, but would be desirable. We are a very experienced, friendly team and you will be supported in your development into an exciting and fulfilling role.

• To participate in the Set-Up of new clinical trials opened at MTW Trust.

• To dispense clinical trial medication in accordance with departmental SOPs and clinical trial regulations.

• To receive clinical trial drug deliveries in accordance with departmental and clinical trial specific SOPs. To ensure that stock received is correct, the correct paperwork has been received as outlined in the delivery note or trial specific SOP. To ensure that appropriate temperature monitoring has been completed during shipment and to take appropriate actions on the event of a temperature excursion which will include quarantining stock and liaising with the pharmacy clinical trials team.

• Undertaking regular stock checks and ordering trial stock using trial specific documentation where appropriate.

• Support the pharmacy clinical trials team in collating clinical trial workload statistics.

• Monitoring the temperature-controlled areas for clinical trial medication within the pharmacy department and at ward level where appropriate. To take appropriate action in the event of a temperature excursion following sponsor guidelines.

• Safe and appropriate handling patient returned clinical trial medication. Ensuring where appropriate accountability logs are updated with details of returns.

• To be able to follow procedures, current clinical trials legislation and ensure working as per Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidance. and Safety at Work Act and COSHH.

Maidstone Hospital, situated in the heart of the Kent countryside, covers a large population and includes the regional Oncology centre which is expanding in support of the Kent cancer network.

The Microbiology Department at Maidstone Hospital are looking for an experienced Advanced Specialist Microbiology Biomedical Scientist with an interest in Health and Safety to join the team. Experience of CL3 regulations is essential but study for qualifications will be available. The post holder will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of health and safety within the department working in a small team with the Head BMS and the CL3 lead to deliver a safe working environment which conforms to all required regulations. The post involves development and maintenance of COSHH and Risk Assessments, production and delivery of training materials, monitoring and recording of relevant PPM records as well as remaining a central part of the microbiology BMS team taking responsibility on a rotational basis for a laboratory section. Lord North ward is an 18 bedded haematology inpatient ward delivering excellent care to patients with haematological conditions and require treatment and support through their cancer journey. The ward works along side Chartwell Suite, Haematology day unit where patients receive chemotherapy and supportive therapies.

This post will be a rotational post between both units, working a combination of long days, nights and weekends.

Applicants should be highly motivated, enthusiastic and pro-active. The post holder will work as part of the nursing team in supporting the ward manager to run an effective and safe ward. Lord North and chartwell treat patients throughout their treatment pathway providing individualised, compassionate and informed care.

We are currently recruiting a Junior Clinical Fellow to join our team!

The Kent Oncology Centre, receives approximately 8,000 new patients every year and is within the top 25% of Trusts in the UK for cancer waiting times, meeting the 85% 62-day national standard since August 2019. We deliver Oncology Outpatient Services to a number of Providers across East and West Kent.

The Centre has an income of circa £50m and is home to a custom designed department at Maidstone which opened in April 1993 and dedicated radiotherapy, chemotherapy and outpatient facilities at Canterbury as part of the main District General Hospital, which was upgraded in 2012.

Our chemotherapy units, based at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Hospitals, work alongside a dedicated cancer pharmacy and aseptics unit and are run by our experienced chemotherapy nursing team.

Duties of this post will supporting with two other SHOs we have in post. This will include covering our SDEC, Chemotherapy Unit, Radiotherapy. Pharmacy, ward patients and Outpatients. There are teaching opportunities, joining in on clinics, involvement in clinical governance and audit activities.

Due to recent Health Education England (HEE) Funding we have been able to purchase five new state of the art Varian Truebeam Linear Accelerators across the Kent Oncology Centre. Over the 2 sites we have 9 Linear Accelerator Treatment Machines and 3 CT Planning Simulators. Many of our services are Radiographer led and we also benefit from having a Consultant Palliative Consultant on the Canterbury site and soon to have one on the Maidstone site.

The Treatment Radiographers have all been adopted by Macmillan and we have a Macmillan Information Centre on the Maidstone site and are supported on both sites by Macmillan Specialist Radiographers and Macmillan Support Workers.

The post holder will be expected to support the consultant-led service across a range of tumour types. As a member of the Kent Oncology Centre there will be a commitment to participate fully in a Kent wide approach to the delivery of cancer care. This includes attendance at governance meetings, multi-disciplinary team meetings and the practice of cross-referral with other site specialists.

The Medical Education Department is responsible for developing, managing and delivering a range of high quality and cost effective medical educational services within the Trust to specifications required by the General Medical Council, NHS England Workforce, Training & Education (NHSE WT&E) Kent, Surrey & Sussex (KSS) Deanery, associated Medical Schools and the Trust’s strategic and operational framework. The post holder will work closely with the Management Team to achieve these overall aims.

The Medical Education Administrator will function as a part of the Medical Education Team, contributing to the overall operations of the Centre, engaging in project activities, and participating in the creation and enhancement of promotional materials within the department. Additionally, the individual in this role will undertake various essential duties and responsibilities.

The Medical Education Administrator will work with the Management Team and GP Training Programme Directors to fulfil the NHS Education Funding Agreement and the service level agreement with the KSS GP Department. This will include facilitating and taking minutes at Local Faculty Group (LFG) meetings. The role also involves organising the GP Training Programme and providing administrative support as required.

The post holder will also support the work of the Specialty and Associate Specialist (SAS) Doctors, International Medical Graduates (IMG) Doctors and Locally Employed Doctors (LED). This includes organising a programme of courses, supporting the Tutors and facilitating the associated LFGs.

There is a requirement to maintain the Accent/Intrepid database according to departmental guidelines. This involves ensuring accurate post information for doctors and precise recording and reporting of all doctors’ study leave.

This post is within the Kent Oncology Centre, based in Maidstone, providing services to patients from East and West Kent.

The post holder will join our team of medical and clinical oncologists to take a major interest in Breast Oncology and the Acute Oncology/SDEC Service, providing Oncology services from a West Kent base. As a member of the Kent Oncology Centre there will be a commitment to participate fully in a Kent wide approach to the delivery of cancer care.
