Job Title: On call/weekend working Speciality doctor in Palliative Medicine Salary Range: £28.37 per hour. Base: Kings Lodge, Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Accountable to: Medical Director Job Description This is a substantive post comprising of approximately 6-8 hours per Saturday and Sunday on site working and telephone support for the remainder of the shift (8am-7pm). The frequency is approximately 1 in 5 to 1 in 8 weekends. There is no regular scheduled work Monday to Friday in this post. The appointee will be expected to provide medical input to the hospice inpatients, admit new patients to the ward on each day of the weekend duty. The Specialty doctor will be professionally accountable to the Medical Director and ultimately to the Trustees of Phyllis Tuckwell (PT). The Specialty doctor will be expected: To clerk patients on admission to the IPU assessing and documenting patients physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs and devising a treatment plan. To review selected patients during ward rounds, and change the treatment plans as needed, in collaboration with the nursing team and consultant on call, to provide good quality palliative care. To keep accurate records that are individual, timely and identifiable, using the hospice electronic record system. To reassess the patients problems as necessary. To refer deceased patient to the Medical Examiner or coroner, complete the medical certificate of cause of death as needed. To be familiar with, and to adhere to, PT policies and guidelines. Complete an appraisal and engage with continuing professional education relevant to Palliative Medicine sufficient to maintain fitness to practise. Funding for study leave will be made available.
