Are you our next shining star in Mental Health and Wellbeing?
As a Mental Health and Wellbeing Mentor, you will provide support to students primarily based at North Star campus. You will offer support to a wide range of students from pre-entry to final transition to Higher Education, Employment or Supported Employment who often experience mental health difficulties and other related specific needs. This can be a high-pressure environment where a degree of personal decision-making and judgement will be required. Specialist support will begin with attendance at Year 9 & 10 Annual Reviews and Year 11 Transition Reviews at feeder schools i.e., Riverside and Hospital School.
The main focus of this role will be to identify, assess and provide ad-hoc pastoral support, 1-1 Mental Health and Wellbeing interventions and mental health first aid to an identified caseload of students. This work can be challenging and will involve supporting students in crisis, and experiencing significant thoughts to harm themselves. You will be able to make informed referrals to Psychological Services and external agencies such as the BeU Swindon Educational Counselling. A key function of this role is recruitment, retention and achievement - working to reduce the number of students considered to be "at risk" of becoming NEET.
To apply for this role, you will need to have a Level 3 recognised Youth, Community, Mentoring or Guidance qualification or be willing to work towards one within an agreed timeframe. You will need relevant experience, working knowledge and understanding of FE or 6th Form environments, working with students with a range of LDD including challenging behaviours, mental ill health , ASC, Pervasive Development Disorders and SpLD.
We have two contracts available as full time or part time.
Full time contract: 37 hours per week, 42 working weeks per year (term time)
Part time contract: 22 hours per week, 42 working weeks per year (term time) (Monday, Wednesday & Friday)
