The Medicine/Telemetry unit has telemetry monitors for monitoring patients with chest pain or acute myocardial infarction in addition patients with circulatory disorders, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and heart failure are also served. The Medicine/Telemetry unit occasionally cares for patients, who have had surgical interventions but are in the chronic phase of treatment. Registered Nurses partner with LPN's and Nursing Assistants to provide patient and family centered care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of clinicians, who support patients and families in decision-making.
The Registered Nurse Manager is responsible for ensuring that subordinate nursing personnel provide timely nursing care which complies with generally accepted standards of clinical practice. This includes the authority to accept, amend or reject the work of subordinates.
The Registered Nurse Manager has continuing responsibilities for all the following functions to include but not limited to:
- Planning work to be accomplished by subordinates, setting priorities, and preparing schedules for completion or work.
- Assigning work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and the requirements of the assignments, and the capabilities of subordinates.
- Evaluating the performance of subordinates.
- Making recommendations for appointments, advancements, or reassignments of subordinates.
- Giving advice, counsel, or instruction to subordinate personnel on work and administrative matters.
- Hearing and resolving complaints of subordinates and patients. Referring more serious complaints not resolved to higher level supervisors.
- Recommending and/or taking disciplinary action where appropriate.
- Identifying developmental and training needs of subordinates and providing or making provision for such development and training.
- Identifying developmental and training needs of subordinates and providing training.
- Responsible for performance measures, performance improvement, customer/patient satisfaction and safety.
- Develops and manages collaborative partnerships with physicians and other clinicians
Preferred Qualifications: - A minimum of five (5) years demonstrated successful nursing practice.
- Demonstrated experience on medical surgical unit and oncology unit.
- A minimum of two (2) years of recent successful management experience at the assistant nurse manager level or higher.
- Candidates should possess a thorough knowledge of current behavioral health concepts, principles and methods of treatment and the ability to supervise other nursing staff in a healthcare setting.
- VA experience with Veteran patient population.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with patients, families, and other members of an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated history of collaborative relationships with physicians and other support services and leadership.
- Documented evidence of knowledge and skill including: Change management, problem solving, customer relations, decision making, priority setting, organization, critical thinking.
Preferred Certification(s): - ANCC for medical surgical nursing
