The successful candidate will serve as the Chief of the Anesthesia at the Northern Indiana Health Care System under the supervision of the Chief of Surgery. As the Chief of the Anesthesia department, you will be responsible and accountable for the overall leadership, policy planning, budget, operations and performance of the service line including:

Responsibilities This position is for a board-certified anesthesiologist who is fully able to function independently and personally administer anesthetics in an operating room (OR) and on call. This is a traditional OR based position for an energetic and well-trained clinician. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

• • Perioperative anesthetic care to patients encompassing all ASA physical statuses
  • Preoperative assessments, including early consultations
  • Intraoperative direct patient care
  • PACU care and appropriate post-op ward care when needed
  • Providing anesthetic care for general surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, podiatry, and women's health (gynecology).
  • Regional outpatient anesthesia skills are a requirement for this position (fellowship not required)
  • Provide non OR anesthesia in gastroenterology (endoscopy, ERCP), pulmonology (bronchoscopy), cardiology (cardioversion), and mental health (ECT)
  • Occasional acute pain management, e.g. epidural blood patches, PCA consultations (fellowship training not required)
  • Provide expert support for OORAM (out of OR airway management) emergencies at the NIHCS
  • Participating in ongoing improvement for program planning, objectives, policies and standards essential to delivery of quality anesthetic care as requested by the NIHCS leadership.

The ACOS Specialty Care is responsible for maintaining professional, technical, and administrative knowledge, competencies, and skill to deliver effective, timely and high-quality medical care to patients at the MTVAHCS. This position will supervise the other physician and mid-level providers in the Specialty Care Service as well as work as a provider in his/her specialty. This position also requires overall supervisory responsibility for the inpatient Hospitalists, Cardiopulmonary section, infectious disease, oncology, the MODs, Path & Lab service, and Radiology Service.
Administrative:
- Demonstrates ability to appoint and/or build interdisciplinary team members with complimentary skills for maximum team effort/success.

-Supervises and evaluates the performance of Physicians, Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, Physician assistants, and any administrative staff who are assigned to the Specialty Care Service. Coaches staff in team building. Contributes to staff growth and development of effective teams and individuals in the team.

- Ensure physician staffing requirements for 24/7, 365 coverage of the Specialty Care Service are met. Responsible to coordinate and supervise the Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) group and ensure that weekend/holiday coverage is scheduled appropriately.

- Ensures that providers possess the necessary skills appropriate to patient care in an inpatient/acute care unit. Ensures that all providers maintain continuing education and certifications, including Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Basic Cardiac Life Support.

- Responsible for completion of Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE), Focused Professional Practice Evaluations (FPPE) for initial hires and providers needing focused evaluation for cause, performance/proficiency evaluations and pay for performance evaluations for all staff under the ACOS Specialty Care Service's direct supervision.

- Develops and implements appropriate policies, procedures, plans, and professional standards that guide and support Specialty Care Service operations.

- Responsible for the assessment of service line needs and takes the lead in the development of resource (staff, space, equipment) requests for the Specialty Care Service. Serves as the responsible official for Specialty Care Service Equipment Inventory List (EIL), participates in completion of annual survey of inventory, and report of survey for any damaged, end of life cycle, or missing equipment.

- Oversight of Performance Improvement/Quality Assurance/Utilization Review and evaluation to ensure that the four dimensions of care are continuously evaluated and improved: Access. Quality of Care, Customer Service/Patient Satisfaction, and Utilization Management/Efficiency of Care. Research problems that impact the quality-of-care delivery. Ensure the ethical and competent practice of the Specialty Care Service.

- Serves on important interdisciplinary boards and committees as appointed by the Chief of Staff.

- Supports all existing safety and infection control practices relevant to this position. Contributes to and keeps abreast of new safety and ergonomic practices as they are developed.

Clinical:
- Serves as a practicing Physician within his/her specialty according to approved clinical privileges at MTVAHCS.
- Maintains current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Serves as an integral member of interdisciplinary and hospital committees as appointed by Chief of Staff.

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Major duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Shares fully in the duties, responsibilities, and authorities of the Chief and must assist support the Chief of SPS in establishing and maintaining a methodical and efficient sterile processing program consistent with consumer demands.
• Must establish and maintain an accurate medical, dental and surgical tracking system, which details specific preventive maintenance performed and equipment availability for patient care use.
• Will plan, organize, direct, train and coordinate all activities associated with a comprehensive sterile processing service.
• Responsible for the collection, receipt, and decontamination of all used soiled medical supplies, surgical instruments, and medical equipment. Decontamination processing requires the specific knowledge to determine what specific mean are utilized to accomplish cleaning, disinfecting and/or pre-sterilization of complex diagnostic medical/surgical equipment, implantable devices, and medical apparatus.
• Accomplishes the inspection, assembly, packaging and terminal sterilization of all medical surgical instrumentation sets, implantable devices, and packs them for use throughout the Medical Center, Operating Room and specialty clinics. It requires knowledge of sterilization methods, operation of the sterilizers and interpretation of biological testing which is of utmost importance.
• Responsible for ensuring the distribution area performs a major role in getting the correct Reusable Medical Devices (RMD) to users and assuring that these supplies are in the correct condition, quality, and location for use.
• Utilizes appropriate inventory management techniques. Coordinates with the personnel that procure SPS' supplies, analyzes usage patterns, problem solves and coordinates inventory activities with secondary supply systems.
• Plans, develops, directs, and maintains a Quality Assurance program ensuring product quality assurance through random sampling, biological testing, and product assessment. Assures the patient's needs are the driving force, places the emphasis on process management and undertaking improvement efforts.
• This position may require travel away from the duty station up to 50% to assist with oversight and management of all sites where sterile processing services are provided within the VA Black Hills Health Care System (VA BHHCS) for support during periods of required coverage.

Duties of the RN Assistant Chief of SPS include, but are not limited to:

• Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates outcomes in the SPS program.

The Multi Disciplinary Program Director will partner closely with our physicians and leadership for all MD Anderson locations to support our Multi Disciplinary Programs for our Gastrointestinal and Genitourinary (GI/GU) Specialties. This position will play a key role in our integration and initiatives to increase market share, revenue and philanthropy efforts.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position facilitates multiple functions designed to promote the optimal performance of Multi-Disciplinary Programs (MDPs) and functions as a dyad partner with the MDP physician leaders. This position will coordinate efforts across the system to optimize representation of all MDPs and support clinical, operational and research initiatives. This position is responsible for assisting with ensuring ongoing compliance and operational performance of clinical programs and projects. Supports the development, implementation, maintenance, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the relevant programs. Enhances the Program though the coordination of daily operations, community education and activities using a comprehensive team approach. Ensures program compliance with regulatory and insurance standards.

CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Provides support to the delivery of integrated patient care throughout delivery sites by assuring care is coordinated through collaboration of MDPs and processes are followed from diagnosis into survivorship. Ensures consistency in the structure and function of the assigned multiple disciplines. Reviews ongoing assessments of strengths and weaknesses of MDPs and identifies opportunities for growth.

2. In collaboration with Marketing, Communications, and Strategy will provide input into the development of educational and promotional materials for community medical education. Advises internal partners as to branding opportunities for the MDPs. Partners with Business Development to identify and assists as appropriate in the cultivation of community partnerships and helping to foster the growth of the programs. Oversees on-sight contacts to increase awareness of and referrals to target programs/services.

3. Collaborates with business and data analysts to report on key clinical, operational and quality metrics including data relevant to patient experience, access information and NPS. Assists patient relations and managers to address service complaints and facilitate service recovery.

4. Ensures funds provided by donations to MDPs through the Banner Health Foundation are utilized according to donor-intent; tracks and provides information and metrics requested by the Banner Health Foundation to meet donor reporting obligations.

5. Develops and maintains positive relationships with professionals, national and/or local associations and planning agencies. Serves on committees as an ambassador for the assigned multiple disciplines and represents the organization in task forces, community affairs and special project groups when necessary.

6. Aligns the goals of assigned MDPS with those of the Cancer Center. Helps solidify the “identity” of each of the assigned MDPs, helping define the breadth and depth of activity at the programmatic level. Maintains high level of engagement among MDP members.

7. In partnership with The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston ensures communication and alignment of the assigned multiple disciplines with counterparts, facilitates communication and identifies opportunities for research collaboration between BMDA and MDA.   

8. Promotes engagement, productivity, and competencies of staff team members. Mentors staff and onboards new team members to provide value to our internal and external customers, critical thinking, and problem solving. Supports Program Leaders with the planning, conduct and documentation of team meetings.

9. Internal customers include but are not limited to employees, patients, physicians, physician leaders and other directors and administrators at the local, regional, and corporate levels. External customers include donors, practicing physicians, vendors, and a community, state, or regional area.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess knowledge and skills typically attained through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in business, marketing, nursing or other health-related field.

Must demonstrate abilities normally attained with 5 or more years of experience in program development, management and evaluation in a healthcare environment. This position can require extensive travel and must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy. Requires excellent interpersonal skills.

Requires excellent knowledge of commonly used office software.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

A Master’s Degree in Nursing, Public Health, Business Administration, Health Administration (MSN, MPH, MBA, MHA) or related field is strongly preferred. • Responsible for overall signal detection, monitoring, evaluation, and appropriate management of safety information from relevant line functions, clinical studies, post-marketing experience, literature, and other sources. Lead the Safety Management Team (SMT).
• Responsible for post-market surveillance plans, periodic safety updates, product labeling and related documents, including safety information to support product claims.
• Responsible for health hazard assessments and responses to inquiries from health authorities, health care professionals, and legal on safety issues. Prepare safety data for health authority review boards.
• Provide medical and scientific guidance to local affiliates on safety issues.
• Provide medical and scientific input to the clinical development program for assigned projects/brands. This includes input to Data Safety Monitoring Board and Safety Adjudication Committee activities, as required.
• Provide integrated safety input into all regulatory documents required during active product development.
• Ensure timely communication of safety information to Qualified Person for Pharmacovigilance for applicable product portfolio.
• Prepare and present safety issues to Alcon Boards and other meetings.
• Provide guidance on safety topics, initiate and maintain productive cross-functional collaborations internally with R&D colleagues, business partners, and externally.
• Ensure support for business development and licensing activities, regulatory inspections/audits, and market action activities.
• Foster an innovative culture, ensuring a collaborative, high performing SMT.
• Provide resource coverage and support project activities across therapeutic areas to ensure timely safety deliverables, when needed.
• May function as a deputy for Head, Medical Safety and Compliance for assigned activities.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:

• Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +18 yrs; Assoc.+14 yrs; M.S.+7 yrs;
• PhD+6 yrs)
• The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English.
• 10 Years of Proven Experience
• 6 Years of Proven Leadership
