This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. The incumbent serves as Supervisory Medical Technologist in the Perry Point division of the Pathology and Lab Service and has full supervisory responsibility for the medical technologists and medical technicians in that section.
The primary duties and responsibilities of the Supervisory Medical Technologist- Perry Point, include but are not limited to the following:
- Overall supervision of the following disciplines in the Path & Lab Service: Chemistry, Hematology/Coagulation, Urinalysis, and limited Blood Bank.
- Provides technical guidance to technicians/technologists when quality control or instrument problems occur during the above-mentioned shifts.
- Prepares work schedules and assigns duties to subordinates to ensure efficient and timely performance of all tests and procedures.
- Takes responsibility for the quality control program to ensure that appropriate records are maintained and investigates complaints from hospital staff concerning questionable results.
- Assures that all standards of the College of America Pathologists (CAP) are practiced at all times on the above mentioned shifts, so that the laboratory will continue to qualify for accreditation by CAP.
- Ability to work as a technologist, as needed, and accomplish duties specifically assigned to the technologist in at least two of the areas supervised. Sustains competency in those areas.
- Ensures activities associated with process improvement, customer service, data driven decision making or team driven change are accomplished. Each employee will ensure they complete the current mandatory hours of continuing education.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.
