The New Mexico VA Healthcare System (NMVAHCS) is seeking two Anesthesiologists in Albuquerque, NM. The NMVAHCS has an academic affiliation with the University of New Mexico. This position has the possibility of obtaining a clinical appointment at the University of New Mexico and allows time for academic study and responsibilities. The Anesthesia Service is a collegial department consisting of Anesthesiologists and CRNAs, with anesthesia residents, medical students, and SRNAs that rotate through the department.

• Full range of perioperative care. This includes extensive participation in preoperative optimization of surgical patients; intraoperative clinical pathways including ERAS; postoperative management including participation in care in the surgical intensive care unit; and acute and chronic pain management services.
• Applicant must be capable of performing anesthesia for cardiothoracic surgeries such as CABGs, aortic valve replacements, and lobectomies. If applicant does not currently perform anesthesia for these types of cases, the applicant will be mentored to gain proficiency in the aforementioned cases. Position located in the Health Services Department at a Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) correctional facility.

Primarily responsible for providing emergency assessment and medical care to inmate patients.

Program Management

• Develops a system to identify SCI patients served by the facility and community who belong in this special disability group. This may involve use of the Spinal Cord Dysfunction (SCD) Registry, Patient Treatment File searches, Veterans Health Information System and Technology Architecture (VistA) and Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) records, SCD reports and/or Classification reports, Patient Data Exchange, Network Health Exchange, and contacts within the community.
• Serves as the point of contact for all inquiries regarding the SCI program. The lnterventional Radiologist is charged with delivering the best possible care to our Veterans. This care must be delivered in accordance with hospital policy, meeting or exceeding national standards and VHA national benchmarks. Assigned duties and responsibilities are performed throughout the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center, often in a close interdisciplinary arrangement and consultation with other clinical services such as the Department of Surgery, Internal Medicine, Primary Care, Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine etc. Interdisciplinary collaborative care implies active participation in interdisciplinary conferences and adherence to interdisciplinary care and treatment strategy decisions. Responsible for the primary care of assigned patient panel across the continuum of care to include: comprehensive health assessment; case management; continuity and coordination of care; patient advocacy and compliance with chronic disease, prevention and utilization indicators. Specific duties include (but are not limited to):

• Comply with credentialing and privileging and required monitoring and evaluation criteria
• Must maintain high clinic standards that are carried into decision-making processes
• Continually strive to maintain and enhance teaching skills to effectively teach residents and students
• Comply with current standards for medical record documentation and resident /medical student supervision
• Expected to meet or exceed established Chronic Disease, Prevention and Utilization Indicators
• Provide appropriate care for Veterans ranging in age from 18 through the geriatric years, taking into consideration diagnosis and physical, psychosocial, spiritual and cultural needs.
• Demonstrates knowledge, skills and abilities to: conduct comprehensive health assessments; determine diagnoses and health care needs; and to construct health care plans based on effective therapeutic ability, consultation ,patient education and established practice guidelines.
• Demonstrates ability to coordinate patient care through patient management techniques within the assigned PACT and implement the same functionality in PACTs.
• Maintains effectiveness in recognizing emergency/acute situations and intervening in an appropriate and effective manner.
• Documents patients' health care clearly, adequately and accurately as defined by medical records documentation, chronic disease and prevention indicators.
• Signs notes in a timely manner as dictated by Medial Center by-laws or the Primary Care Service Chief.
