TIME LIMITED POSITION: This time-limited position will provide the peer support apprentice the time to learn and develop the necessary skills to perform as a peer specialist and to earn a peer specialist certification. After successful completion of a State or VA-approved contract vendor's peer specialist certification training process, and the necessary year of specialized experience, and time-in-grade requirements, the position would be eligible for a permanent, peer specialist position.

The Peer Support Apprentice functions as an interdisciplinary team member, assisting physicians and other professional/non-professional personnel in a rehabilitation treatment program. Peer support apprentices perform a variety of therapeutic and supportive tasks that include assisting Veterans in articulating their goals for recovery and personal wellness, learning and practicing new skills, helping them monitor their progress, assisting them in their treatment, modeling effective coping techniques and self-help strategies based on the apprentice's own recovery experience, and supporting them in advocating for themselves to obtain effective services. Serves as program support assistant responsible for performing duties in a variety of functional specialization's to provide information and management assistance in planning, controlling and/or reporting on the fiscal resource, acquisition of equipment and services, program accomplishment and program administration. 2. Provides medication counseling to patients.

9. Implements PBM Committee policies including therapeutic interchanges and automatic substitutions to include appropriate patient and provider education.
10. Performs all tasks having to do with medication preparation and dispensing in Outpatient and Inpatient Pharmacy Operations which include Mental Health, Chemotherapy, and Controlled Substances.
11. Reviews all medication orders for appropriateness, drug selection, dosage, route of administration and the amount, prior to dispensing.
12. Ensures all medication orders are entered into the electronic patient medical record.
13. Reviews medication profiles and monitors for compliance or potential abuse; problems encountered shall be resolved.
Selects, compounds, dispenses and fills a range of drugs including extemporaneous preparations, special formulations, ophthalmic (subconjunctival and intravitreal injections), narcotics, investigational drugs, oncolytic agents, etc., in both outpatient and inpatient areas. Adequate quality assurance procedures shall be followed as applicable.
14. Assumes an active role in the overall pharmacy-training program consisting of pharmacy students, pharmacy residents, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacist.
15. Responsible for conducting on-the-job training and provide guidance for all Pharmacy Operations processes and procedures.
