Major duties include, but are not limited to:

TIME LIMITED POSITION: This time-limited position will provide the peer support apprentice the time to learn and develop the necessary skills to perform as a peer specialist and to earn a peer specialist certification. The Peer Support Apprentice functions as an interdisciplinary team member, assisting physicians and other professional/non-professional personnel in a rehabilitation treatment program. Peer support apprentices perform a variety of therapeutic and supportive tasks that include assisting Veterans in articulating their goals for recovery and personal wellness, learning and practicing new skills, helping them monitor their progress, assisting them in their treatment, modeling effective coping techniques and self-help strategies based on the apprentice's own recovery experience, and supporting them in advocating for themselves to obtain effective services. The position functions as a role model, exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills and serves as an advocate, provides information and peer support services for Veterans in outpatient, inpatient and/or community settings. This individual must develop the ability to assist others in treatment, based on the principles of recovery, wellness, and resiliency, by promoting self-determination, personal responsibility, and the empowerment inherent in self-directed recovery. By inspiring the hope that recovery and resiliency are achievable goals, the position can assist and empower Veterans, who are diagnosed with mental illnesses and/or co-occurring disorders, as well as other chronic illnesses or injuries, to achieve their personal recovery goals. The position performs a wide range of tasks to assist Veterans in regaining independence within the community and mastery over their own recovery and wellness process. GS-12 Supervisory Medical Technologist- Evenings/Nights

Duties include but are not limited to the following description:

This is considered the full performance level for a supervisory position. An MT/CLS at this level serves as the Off Shifts Supervisory Medical Technologist providing direction for motivated staff requiring minimal technical supervision to GS-9, GS-10, and GS-11 staff in the areas of Blood Bank, Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Immunology and Urinalysis as well as providing direction to non-testing personnel, GS-6 and GS-7 in specimen collection, specimen processing and accessioning and quality control activities of the front desk section and phlebotomy service.

Manages and directs the administrative activities of health care professionals who are responsible for the medical, dental and allied health services of the facility, and for overseeing the provision of the best possible patient care to the inmate population.

Health care services provided include inpatient and outpatient care in either an institution setting or at a local hospital, as well as routine health maintenance services, emergency services and chronic care of inmates with long term illnesses.

Serves as a cost center manager to prepare estimates and administer an annual budget. Manages a procurement system to provide adequate levels of medical, surgical, dental, and pharmaceutical supplies.

Provides administrative supervision to subordinate staff which may include an Assistant Health System Administrator, Pharmacist, Clinical Nurse, Medical Records Technician, Public Health Service (PHS) staff, contract staff, etc.

Establishes and maintains good relationships with local hospitals and other health service installations, representatives from colleges and universities, accrediting agencies and the community at large, for the purpose of promoting understanding of quality care and the health care delivery system.

Develops and coordinates internal review systems to assure compliance of the standards of the American Correctional Association (ACA) and Joint Commission standards, as well as other regulatory groups and higher agency authorities.

Implements the agency’s re-entry initiatives including timely Inmate Skills Assessment data entry at admission and evaluation of health status documented in an updated electronic exit summary at release.

Ensures the provision of release medications and electronic transmission of health records to community healthcare providers rendering continued medical or mental health care when applicable.

Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

• Applies in-depth knowledge of the principles and techniques of mammography to perform screening, diagnostic and invasive mammography with accuracy, precision and high quality.
• Responsible for all technical requirements and quality assurance measures as required by accrediting and other regulating agencies.
• Develops, implements and maintains a comprehensive program to promote breast cancer screening.
• Performs case management by tracking abnormal results and ensuring appropriate and timely follow-up.
• Serves as a Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist by performing a wide variety of routine to complex diagnostic radiologic and computed tomography examinations.
