Registered Nurse – Inpatient Unit

Hours: 30 hours per week over 7 days (with flexibility to work days and nights)

What is the role?
Our nurses are responsible for coordinating and delivering end of life care to patients with life limiting illnesses. It’s all about giving our patients the best possible quality of life.

You will monitor symptom control issues and support patients in developing coping strategies for living with symptoms. Provide support for those closest to the patient, as well as providing emotional and psychological support alongside other disciplines to provide a fully holistic and multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

You must be able to demonstrate the highest standards of nursing care, be open to new ways of working, have a positive outlook, lots of initiative and work well as part of a team. We have an excellent working environment with day and night 1:4 RGN/patient staff ratios. Supported by an experienced team of healthcare assistants and lots of opportunities for further degree/masters level study and development programmes.

It’s not essential to have any previous palliative care experience, as you will receive a full induction and ongoing training and support.

There will be a requirement to work shifts in the community and work flexibly across both teams as needed.

The role of the Senior Occupational Therapist is to provide, develop and deliver a specialised and skilled level of Occupational Therapy intervention to each service within the rotation. The post holder will have continuing responsibility and accountability for their team, provide transformational leadership to promote a positive culture in which a competent, highly motivated nursing team can flourish, acting as a role model and mentor the post holder will influence the team in the delivery of high quality, evidence based nursing care which meets the needs of the patients and is aligned to the Trust Pillars and the Trust Nursing and Midwifery Strategy. The post holder will deliver key performance targets aimed at improving quality, reducing risk, improving patient experience and ensuring sound financial and human resource management within the clinical area, working closely with the Matron for Maternity and Neonatal Services and the wider multi-disciplinary team (both with the unit environment and externally to it) to ensure the delivery of effective pathways of care for patients within the Perinatal services. Specialist Lead 1. Work in collaboration with system wide colleagues to ensure best medicines value for gastroenterology 2. To lead and develop the clinical pharmacy service to gastroenterology specialty within the Trust. This includes setting and monitoring quality standards for clinical pharmacy services. 3 To introduce, maintain and develop a team and specialty-based model for clinical pharmacy service provision. 4. To act as the point of liaison for the specialty and lead on pharmacy-related aspects of the development of services, medicines introduction, horizon scanning and specialist information provision. 5. To regularly meet with the Pharmacy Clinical Services Manager and Medicines Effectiveness team to develop a strategic plan for clinical pharmacy services. 6. To provide the Pharmacy Clinical Services Manager and Medicines effectiveness lead with details of output, performance and activity of the clinical pharmacy service within neurology speciality at specified time intervals in a format agreed by the Pharmacy leadership team. 7. To actively participate in trust wide medicines assurance, governance and specialty meetings to promote the safe effective use of medicines and role of Pharmacy in medicines optimisation. 8. To prepare business cases to support clinical Pharmacy service developments within the speciality. 9. To collaborate in the development of Integrated Care Pathways, clinical guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures, Patient Group Directions and any other required policies within the speciality and Pharmacy department. 10. To support the investigation of medication related safety incidents and formulation/delivery of actions plans across the Trust to address problems identified where appropriate.
