We are recruiting for a permanent Cable Assembly Test Operative in Poole.
Job Summary:
The Test Operator will be responsible for performing quality assurance tests on cable assemblies to ensure they meet the required standards and specifications. This role involves using testing equipment to validate the functionality, durability, and performance of assembled cables, identifying defects, and collaborating with the production and engineering teams to maintain high product quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform electrical and mechanical testing of cable assemblies using specialized testing equipment such as continuity testers, high-voltage testers, and automated test systems.
- Verify the functionality, insulation, resistance, and continuity of cable assemblies in compliance with company specifications and industry standards.
- Inspect cable assemblies for visual defects such as damaged connectors, poor soldering, or incorrect wiring.
- Record test results and compare them against predefined specifications.
- Identify and document non-conformities and defects, escalating issues to supervisors when necessary.
- Maintain accurate and detailed testing records, including test reports and logs.
- Ensure proper labeling and tagging of tested products to reflect pass/fail status.
- Assist in preparing and updating test procedures and reports as needed.
- Perform routine calibration and preventive maintenance on testing equipment.
- Ensure testing tools and equipment are in good working condition, and report any malfunctions.
- Work closely with the production team to ensure defective units are addressed and reworked in a timely manner.
- Liaise with the engineering team to provide feedback on recurring quality issues or design-related concerns.
Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within cable assembly or electronics.
- Previous experience operating electrical test equipment is desirable.
- Understanding of electrical principles (voltage, resistance, continuity).
- Familiarity with cable assembly processes, connectors, and industry standards (IPC/WHMA-A-620 is a plus).
- Good attention to detail with the ability to spot minor defects and inconsistencies.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and test specifications.
- Proficiency in using basic computer systems for data entry and report generation.
- Ability to stand, sit, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
- Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for handling small components.
Hours:
Monday to Thursday 8.00am - 4.30pm (early Friday finish at 1.30pm)
Salary:
£Competitive depending on Cabling and Testing experience.
Permanent after successful 12 week probationary period.
