The Materials Science and Engineering Division performs leading-edge measurement science research, working closely with our stakeholders to impact a broad range of science and technology areas. Our core areas of competence are grounded in the discipline of materials science and engineering (structure-property-processing relationships) with specific focus on metallurgy, polymer science, and functional materials. This expertise has expanded in recent years to include nanoscale materials (2D materials), complex fluids (colloids, emulsions), advanced devices (electronic, magnetic, energy), and advanced manufacturing (additive, biomanufacturing).

In this position, you will:

• Conduct a detailed uncertainty analysis of the custom absolute magnetometer by
  using experimental design principles to quantify the sources of error in the instrument and their magnitude
• Modify the custom absolute magnetometer to minimize the largest sources of error
• Utilize the optimized absolute magnetometer to "certify" the values of the magnetic
  moment/susceptibility of two magnetic Standard Reference Materials

Major Duties Include:

• Coordinates and facilitates with service line SME's in the development, evaluation, facilitation, documentation, analysis and coordination of short term, mid-term, and long-range plans, programs, and performance improvement projects within VAMHCS to ensure compliance with regulatory standards associated with national accrediting organizations including but not limited to OIG, TJC and LTCI as well as compliance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Life Safety Code, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and other regulations required and enforced by federal, state and local levels.
• The incumbent is responsible for providing consultation, recommendations, compliance information and data to their assigned services as well other services on an as needed basis. The services for which the incumbent is responsible include but are not limited to Facilities and Engineering, Human Resources Management, Acquisition & Materiel Management, Finance and Accounting, Police & Security, Public Affairs and Voluntary Service, Information Resource Management, Environmental Management Services, and Medical Administration Services.
• The incumbent will routinely perform administrative support Compliance Tracers using standard Tracer methodology, as directed by the Q, PI&A Director Tracers will be conducted to assess continuous survey/accreditation/regulatory body readiness. Findings will be documented and submitted, as required, to the Q, PI&A Director, the QSI Director, and any required committees or councils.

What are the Major Duties of this Position?

Provides supervision, care and correctional treatment of inmates and guidance to lower-graded Correctional Officers. Concerned with maintenance of institution security contributing to the health and welfare of the inmates and the promotion of good public relations.

Enforces rules and regulations governing facility security, inmate accountability and inmate conduct to ensure judicial sanctions are carried out and inmates remain in custody. From time to time, may be authorized to carry firearms and to use physical force, including deadly force, to maintain control of inmates.

During institution emergencies or other periods of heavy workload or limited staff, may be required to work long and irregular hours, unusual shifts, Sundays, holidays and unexpected overtime. Senior Officer Specialist must be flexible and have a broad knowledge base to use own initiative in the resolution of problem situations.

The incumbent is the Regional Correctional Programs Administrator for a region within the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP). Under the general direction of the Deputy Regional Director, the incumbent is actively involved in long range and strategic planning. They evaluate programs that may be substantive for other regional staff. The incumbent serves to execute the mission of the regional office which is to provide supervision, direction and related managerial functions for the BOP. The incumbent is responsible for policy implementation, planning, directing and coordinating operations to provide services that meet unit/case management and correctional program requirements to accomplish the institutions' missions.

• Develops optical and electrical particle characterization methods and applies those methods to reference materials of interest to the biopharmaceutical community, and oversees operation of an X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) laboratory to provide surface characterization capabilities to researchers from multiple NIST divisions.
• Conducts reference material method development and operations of XPS laboratory with minimal management supervision.

The incumbent is primarily involved in work for the purpose of production of quality interior architectural signage, imprinting of promotional products, engraving of award and recognition items, and manufacture of digital license plates for various agencies of the federal government, including the military, by utilizing an all inmate work force.

The incumbent is responsible for the technical and administrative supervision of an all-inmate work force accomplishing trades and labor work in the manufacture of a finished product according to the requirements of production schedule. The incumbent will train inmate workers in the production of quality interior architectural signage, promotional items, plaques, name badges, nameplates and license plates. The incumbent assigns, directs and reviews the work of the inmates on the work crew. Oversee a team of contract analysts and staff officers in the development and coordination of all source analysis in support of the CHIPS Act process and Commerce Department's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), in accordance with Commerce Department-mandated timeframes.

In collaboration with ISG's other team chiefs, oversee the development and coordination of all-source analysis in support of the Treasury-led Committee on Foreign Investment in the US (CFIUS) process and the DOJ-led Team Telecom process.
