The main purpose of the role is to perform analysis for the Public Health team. The team need to be made aware of many national data publications and the analyst will produce briefings on many of these publications. This will cover a wide range of topics within the Public Health remit including Hospital admissions, Mortality and Health behaviours. The analyst will also support performance monitoring and evaluations of services delivered by Wiltshire Council. The role will also require responding to information requests from the public, council staff and partner organisations. Further, the role may require primary research such as surveys, focus groups and interviews. The role will also require some website administration. Specific duties and responsibilities include: Ensure core datasets are maintained and updated in line with national publication/data releases. Identify and source new datasets for new outcome measures, assessing data accuracy and quality. Support the delivery of the statutory Joint Strategic Needs Assessment. This document aims to improve the health and wellbeing of the local community and reduce inequalities for all ages by understanding the need of the local communities. The JSNA is delivered by the Public Health Intelligence Team on behalf of Wiltshire Council and Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Group and presented to the Health and Wellbeing board. Undertake research, analysis, and interpretation of complex data on a regular basis. Analysis and research may include hypothesis development, statistical tests, primary research, GIS mapping and report writing. Datasets often need to be joined to add value and records may need to be cleansed and anonymized. Lead on analytical projects to identify the health needs of our population such as those involved with the Health and Wellbeing JSNA, School Health survey, and Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment. This that may include managing and leading a small team of council or partner organization staff ensuring these projects align with public health objectives, providing specialist advice on data capture, analysis and reporting/publication . Ensure strict information governance guidance is adhered to, files stored securely, and electronic exchange is completed securely. Research good practice and respond to legislation updates to ensure compliance is maintained Create and maintain links within the council, local NHS organisations and other statutory, voluntary, and academic institutions necessary to further the public health intelligence function and ensure best practice. Liaise with peers in other departments and LAs to exchange information, gain alternative perspective and harvest good practice, attending regional meetings as appropriate and getting the most out of our data. Produce infographics to report complex statistical information ensuring that documents produced are tailored to the target audience and accessible Offer expert advice and guidance to the wider public health team on actions relating to public health information. Ensure colleagues understand statistical testing to be able to interpret results and intelligence. Develop and deliver bespoke training regarding Excel, Surveys, and infographics to members of the public health department. Use of professional expertise to respond to ad hoc data/information requests from the publichealth team and provide urgent analysis in the event of an incident/outbreak leading on sourcing information from commissioners and providers as required. Provide responses on behalf of the council to members of the public regarding published data. This will include responding to FOIs. Communicate availability of PHI products through websites, monthly newsletters, presentations, and workshops acting as the point of contact for the wider public health team for further information, guidance and advice. Updating pages on websites, this may include routine updating and cleansing of data to ensure it is accurate.
