The Student Intern will perform the following:

• Preparing letters of commendation, letters of appreciation, and awards. Preparing a variety of narrative and statistical information, correspondence, reports, etc., in final form for supervisor's signature.
• Reviewing all signatory documents received in the office. Reviewing all outgoing correspondence for proper format, grammar, typographical accuracy, proper coordination, attachments, and compliance with supervisor's viewpoint.

1. Implements policies and procedures required to manage sensitive compartmented information (SCI) programs and to protect SCI resources. Functions as a technical specialist on all SCI security matters as well as other areas of classified security and classification guidance. Duties require incumbent to maintain currency on a variety of different security program interrelationships, requirements, regulations and guidance in order to apply this knowledge to protect SCI facilities and materials from espionage, sabotage, and destruction.

2. Implements policies and procedures for accomplishment of SCI protection and security. Researches, interprets, analyzes and applies Presidential Executive Orders, Director Central Intelligence Directives (DCIDs), Defense Intelligence Agency Manuals, DoD Manuals, military component manuals and instructions, and local Operating Instructions.

3. Controls all collateral and SCI classified information and material within the Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs) affecting the Unit's mission. Ensures SCIFs comply with all applicable construction and physical requirements, standards, and regulations as delineated by higher headquarters.

4. Implements the SCI security clearance program for all assigned personnel, ensuring all required clearances are up-to-date and completed. Tracks and administers SCI clearances for all in-processing personnel to ensure mission readiness. Terminates or transfers SCI clearances for out-processing personnel. Provides SSO services for other units located within the same geographic area. Incumbent meets with key customers to assess customer satisfaction and resolve problems that arise. Ensures that subordinates provide customer guidance and training.

5. Provides oversight of unit and SSO security self-inspections and presents detailed and comprehensive reports with corrective action taken to the unit intelligence commander/SIO. Follows-up to ensure complete and quality resolution of discrepancies. Assesses and revises policies and procedures to improve their quality, timeliness, and efficiency.

Financial Institution Specialists receive on-the-job and formal classroom training designed to provide practical experience in the compliance function of the FDIC. 

Financial Institution Specialists participate in the assessment of financial institutions to ensure consumers and depositors are treated fairly and operate in compliance with federal consumer protection, anti-discrimination, and community reinvestment laws; and promoting economic inclusion by helping to build and strengthen positive connections between insured financial institutions and consumers, depositors, small businesses, and communities. Financial Institution Specialists also:

• Evaluate compliance with applicable consumer protection, fair lending and civil rights laws and regulations, Community Reinvestment Act, and related enforcement responsibilities, through targeted compliance examination reviews.
• Research, compile, manipulate, and/or evaluate data to prepare a variety of documents, management reports and presentations.
• Identify and report unusual transactions, irregularities, weaknesses or deficiencies to a higher-graded specialist/examiner and/or supervisor.
• Utilize computer software programs to perform analysis and generate applicable reports and documents.

• Participate as members of the compliance examination team by ensuring that their portion of an examination is completed timely; communication with co-workers regarding work performed on an examination; and, sharing information with co-workers.

• Assists attorneys in all aspects of the investigation and litigation of claims, including in connection with preparing and taking discovery, researching and drafting pleadings, motions and briefs, preparing for settlement, and preparing and participating in trials.
• Supports attorneys in drafting, reviewing, analyzing, or responding to legislative proposals or implementing rules and regulations.

Financial Institution Interns will be assigned to the Division of Depositor and Consumer Protection (DCP).  Interns will work directly on teams with experienced FDIC employees to evaluate FIDC-insured institutions' compliance with fair lending and consumer protection laws and regulations.  These teams are responsible for assessing financial institutions to determine whether they are maintaining effective controls and procedures, managing their institutions effectively, and complying with all applicable laws and regulations, including those relating to consumer protection, privacy, community reinvestment, and fair lending.

Under the direction and supervision of an Examiner or a higher grade team member, the incumbent will participate in and/or independently perform the following:

Assesses the adequacy and determines the strength of the Compliance Management System (senior management oversight; compliance program, including the elements of policies, monitoring, and training; and audit procedures) to ensure ongoing compliance as related to the particular regulation under review.  Conducts reviews and assessments of the following: 

• Examine initial disclosures, periodic statements, advertisements, and other information to evaluate procedures and reviews for compliance with applicable regulations.
• Examine closed-end non-real estate credit transactions for compliance with applicable regulations.
• Review the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act loan application register for accuracy and assesses the bank's overall reporting procedures.
• Review adverse action notices for compliance, and to gain a cursory exposure to applicable lending-related regulations.
• Examine a sample of residential, consumer, commercial and/or agricultural files to determine compliance with consumer laws and regulations.

Reviews applicable regulations and examination manual to become informed about the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA).

Participates in discussing the overall examination process including evaluating the bank's Compliance Management System (senior management oversight; compliance program, including the elements of policies, monitoring, and training; and audit procedures).  Asks questions to gain clarification and understanding of examination policies and procedures.
