Assistant Project Manager

The Opportunity

As our next Assistant Project Manager, you’ll be a key part of driving the successful delivery of detailed design engineering activities for the HPC Project, ensuring every stage of the contract lifecycle aligns with the overall project schedule. You’ll be responsible for overseeing planning and execution in line with strict safety, quality, time, and cost standards to meet project goals. As the Assistant Project Manager, your focus will be on managing RD and Nuclear Services Contracts, ensuring that all engineering deliverables are completed safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards.

What you will be doing

In this role, you’ll build and sustain effective relationships with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders, ensuring their expectations are met whenever possible. - Maintain clear and effective communication with stakeholders, executing Project strategies within contract delivery.
- Oversee delivery of the RD & Nuclear Services Task Order, ensuring alignment with goals and standards.
- Drive safe, on-time, and on-budget delivery of key contract areas, meeting all business and technical requirements.
- Track programme progress against milestones, deadlines, budget, and funding, providing stakeholders with detailed progress reports.
- Anticipate, manage, and resolve contract-related issues within scope; identify risks and escalate issues as needed.
- Manage the interface between the Responsible Designer, Nuclear Services contract team, and HPC Technical teams.
- Identify and coordinate stakeholder involvement, including project management, document management, project controls, and commercial and technical teams.
- Report regularly on progress, highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs) and any challenges.


Who you are

We’re looking for you to hold a strong foundation in managing complex engineering or construction projects, ideally with hands-on experience in Project Management or Project Engineering. Familiarity with NEC contracts is a big plus, as is a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant science or engineering field. Additional requirements for this role include:

The Opportunity

As our Project Manager, you will play a key role in securing industry support to ensure the continuous, smooth operation of Hinkley Point C (HPC). You will oversee service contracts ranging in value from a few million to tens of millions, with the total portfolio estimated at around £750 million. Reporting to the Commissioning & Pre-Operations Senior Project Manager within the PMO group, you’ll lead the delivery of over 100 Long-Term Service Agreements (LTSAs) and manage a growing project management team.

You will work closely with various departments including Commercial, Technical, Finance, and Legal to ensure the timely procurement and execution of contracts that enable the successful operation of HPC. Your role will involve effective coordination with stakeholders to ensure that all contractual and operational requirements are met, delivering on time and within budget.

In addition, you will manage the Commissioning Alliance, collaborating with the Capability Manager to meet both technical and strategic resourcing needs. This includes taking ownership of the overall LTSA budget, valued at approximately £200 million, to ensure efficient and cost-effective project execution.

What you’ll be doing

You'll lead the procurement activities, ensuring contracts are delivered on time and meet quality standards. You will manage a team of procurement engineers, guiding them to define roles, identify key resources, and communicate responsibilities clearly. A key part of your role will be delivering the LTSA procurement schedule, ensuring contracts are in place for the required timelines and coordinating with technical teams to define contract scope.

You’ll also be responsible for driving LTSA procurement activities in alignment with licensing, safety, quality, time, and cost requirements, ensuring all technical and business needs are met. You will track and manage the procurement schedule, providing stakeholders with regular updates on progress against milestones, deadlines, and budgets. Additionally, you'll develop and maintain an LTSA procurement execution plan to effectively manage and organise the programme.

Your role will involve collaborating with other programmes to ensure LTSA procurement integrates smoothly with the wider schedule. You’ll also adopt best practices, work closely with Sizewell C teams to ensure value for money, and manage the Commissioning Alliance framework, including annual contract negotiations and resource planning.


Who you are

As our next Project Manager, you’ll bring significant experience in project management or procurement, with a strong focus on service contract procurement. While a degree in engineering or a related subject and being chartered is preferred, we’re more focused on your ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and tackle complex technical and commercial challenges. A solid understanding of Health & Safety legislation will also be essential for success in this role.

You’ll demonstrate a strong understanding of quality standards in a project environment and be familiar with Quality Assurance documentation. Your ability to manage complex technical, commercial, and legal negotiations with suppliers or contract bidders will be key, as well as your expertise in handling high-stakes negotiations and reaching workable outcomes.

We’re looking for someone with a proven track record of delivering projects within technically complex and dynamic environments, ideally within the Nuclear Energy sector or similar regulated industries. Strong leadership, presentation, and communication skills are a must, along with the ability to influence and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.

The Role

The SZC Project Team is a growing, diverse and collaborative organisation committed to engaging stakeholders, triggering development consent and preparing the project for the start of construction. The Engineering & Technical function within the Civil Works Programme (CWP) is an integral part of this project, responsible for the:

- Definition of the design, engineering, and technical requirements;
- Leadership of the delivery of all CWP design (from requirements definition to acceptance), including management of the Engineering & Technical budget and associated resources and supply chain to deliver the design to the CWP Delivery teams.
- Integration of constructability requirements and design integration within the Civil Works Programme and with Site Establishment and Offsite Infrastructure
The Project Engineer will be part of the Engineering & Technical function within the Civil Works Programme and report to either the Design Manager or the Engineering & Technical Project Manager. The Project Engineer will work under the direction of either the Design Manager, therefore focussing on technical aspects; or the Engineering & Technical Project Manager focussing on cost and schedule aspects


The Skills

- Design coordination

- Experience of Civil structural design – heavy RC structure and Steel, including seismic design
- Configuration management

What you’ll be doing…


- Provide a suite of exec reporting to the senior lead team and Genco Board members.

What you’ll be doing
Working closely with the Supply Chain, Responsible Designer and Quality teams, you’ll be dedicated to delivering a group of nuclear power plant systems, structures, components, and contracts within the Balance of Plant Programme.
You’ll work with multidisciplinary teams on post financial investment contracts, and drive the implementation of site
- specific design changes.
Who you are
You’ll have a track record of delivering projects within a technically complex and dynamic environment whilst ensuring high levels of safety, security and environmental responsibility within the Nuclear Energy sector or similar regulated environment.
Experience of managing contractors, consultants and other advisors throughout large and complex construction projects, in a regulated environment will be key.
You’ll be able to demonstrate experience of managing projects through the project lifecycle from concept to handover.
Additionally, you’ll have good presentation, influencing and facilitation skills as well as excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to develop relationships and maintain effective networks.

- Managing the deployment of the Piping Execution Designer, overseeing utilisation of execution designer tools, readiness of EDF IT servers, technical tests and evaluations, resolution of coactivity open points, adherence to contractual aspects, change management processes, reintegration by Bilfinger process and associated tests and the coordination of deployment activities.
- Ensuring seamless transfer of HVAC Execution Designer scope into the EPR-E Master 3D Model.

- Collaborating with Model Managers to ensure Execution Designers adhere to modelling rules and maintain expected quality standards.

We’re recruiting for apprentices to join our Business training programme, working as part of some of the most exciting projects at EDF.

This 2 year apprenticeship offers the opportunity to gain a Level 3 Business Administration Advanced qualification whilst spending time in different departments of the team based at Gloucester Business Park. You’ll experience a variety of roles that will help you develop a wide range of transferable business skills that will set you up for your future career.

Training, development and support for you:

During the training programme your time will be split between studying at college and learning on the job in our business. You’ll attend the National College for Nuclear in Cannington, Somerset, one day a month and study remotely. You’ll have plenty of support along the way too – from your Tutors at National College for Nuclear, to your EDF Line Manager and our Early Careers team; as well as face-to-face support at our on-site Apprentice Hub and digital access to relevant information, learning and care.

The Opportunity...

EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) established in 2023, is responsible for delivering the design for a number of NI buildings, systems and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project through an integrated team, support to HPC construction and commissioning activities, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. Therefore, a Technical Directorate is being created, responsible for the engineering disciplines and technical expertise required to deliver the different engineering projects through integrated teams in EPR-E.

For the SZC Project, work on the replication strategy and some early design studies are already underway and being delivered and managed from both France and UK.

We are currently looking to recruit a Project Scheduler who will be responsible for developing the consolidated schedule for engineering activities and maintaining all detailed schedules with the project team. As a Project Scheduler, you will be involved in the scheduling and reporting of the SZC project as well as in support of transverse topics related to planning.

What you’ll be doing…


- Creating, monitoring, and analysing the Level 2 (Full project duration)/Level 3 schedule (12-18 months term) on the allocated engineering scope in accordance with standard of best project practice.
- Monitoring project progress, including identifying critical activities and reviewing forecasts and progress achieved to date.
- Providing permanent support to the project and technical teams in the optimisation of their schedules.
- Identifying interfaces at the assigned perimeters and ensuring that they are properly connected to other perimeters.
- Analysing activities on the critical path to identify the possible impact of delays, analysing deviations, and proposing appropriate actions to project managers.
- Following up on project milestones, alerting of delays and participating in the definition of the recovery plan.
- Participating in the calculation of physical progress and Earned Value Management and analyse the results.
- Taking part in the quantification of planning impacts in the event of changes in the scope of the contract.
- Contributing to periodic planning reports and KPI’s analysis.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of methods and tools.

Who you are...

Your background may include some of the following:

- Hold a degree in Engineering.
- Engineering or technical background with experience in project management or scheduling.
- Experience of Primavera P6 or at least another scheduling tool (MS project/Planisware)
- Experience on a major industrial project, ideally in the nuclear industry.
- Understanding of Civil Work engineering sequence of activities.

- Experience in intercultural context, with strong communication skills and dealing with multiple stakeholders.
- Demonstrable track record of collaborative working and leading successful project teams.
- Previous experience in large scale, complex Energy projects, accomplished in problem solving and delay mitigation.
Your background may include some of the following:
- French speaking; past experience in French companies/Groups

What you’ll be doing…As a Business Analyst for Information Management, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Who you are…

- Demonstrable experience in delivering digital projects i.e. information requirement development, data analysis and IT system specification within complex, fast-paced capital projects environment
- Excellent engagement skills, including interviewing, facilitating workshops, mediating and presenting
- Demonstrated ability to interface with business stakeholders from a variety of disciplines and levels, and communicate clearly to ensure that HPC understands the available Information Management
Services and the best way of accessing them
- Strong practical knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio
- Experience in one or more of the Information Management disciplines of Information Architecture, Information Analysis, Master Data Management, Data Administration or Database System development
would be a bonus.
