Scope / Purpose of Role:
A varied and exciting role for an experienced Planning Manager who is motivated by pace, plan delivery, customer delivery and the people experience.
Ultimately the role holder is accountable for the following:
- Management and development of the planning team.
- Responsibility for plan attainment of 95% across the factory and customer service levels of 99%.
- Develop the capacity plan for forthcoming 3-12 months.
- Work with the operations team to ensure shift patterns and labour hours are right for the business.
- Measure sales forecast accuracy to ensure we drive the forward forecast for the business.
- Responsibility for scheduling of raw material in ensuring technical specifications are adhered to.
- Responsibility for frozen WIP stock built to meet promotional and seasonal demand using frozen stock, internal life and ensuring no out of date product.
- Responsibility for the day-to- day planning of the site.

Key Result Areas:
Ownership of Daily Planning
Overall responsibility for ensuring robust, achievable and accurate provisional plans. Daily plans are agreed and signed off in advance with all department managers.
Ensure 2-hourly progress updates are followed up on by department to assess progress. Highlight risks of customer shortages to Customer Services Manager and Commercial Team as early as possible.
Preparation of Weekly Plans/MPS
Manage the planning system to convert sales forecast into achievable weekly / long term production and material plans that optimally balance customer service and operational efficiency.
Raw material and Stock Control
Responsible for scheduling incoming raw materials (ensuring cost effective control). Controlling of WIP (fresh and frozen) and final packed stocks. Managed aged stocks, Review Meetings to highlight any potential issues arising.
Rough Cut Capacity Planning
Alongside the Factory Manager, prepare rough cut planning to ensure optimum labour levels are in place. Understand the forward demand and ensure that right sizing the businesses forefront on the agenda. Proactively contribute to the NPD process to ensure that new product launches line standards are in place to ensure best productivity through the factory.
Weekly Planning Commitment Meeting
Chair weekly Planning Commitment Meeting to review past week’s performance and forthcoming week’s plan. Work in tandem with the Procurement Manager to ensure material coverage. Agree on and schedule engineering preventive maintenance times.
Leadership on Performance Management
Lead, manage and develop the Planning Team and Customer Services Co-ordinator to create an open and honest culture. Support the development of the team through individual performance reviews and personal development plans.
Technical Knowledge
Have a thorough understanding of technical specifications to ensure we are driving food safety through the plans.
Planning Tools and Training
Responsible for ensuring that planning tools are kept, updated and training materials are in place to cover all processes and procedures.
Reporting
Prepare, in a timely manner, weekly and monthly reports for the Factory Manager.

Skills & Experience:
Qualifications:
- Lean Six Sigma or equivalent experience working with the methodology (desirable).
Skills:
- Advanced Excel user (complex formulas, macros and conditional formatting)
- Evidence of strong leadership skills in managing people
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels, ensuring information is delivered and understood
- Ability to drive change through positive communication, employee involvement and forward planning, (e.g. quickly create new plans for new product types)
- Ability to drive and build strong levels of employee engagement
- Developing staff through continuous development, coaching and empowerment to create improved performance
- Ability to deliver under pressure, and flexibility within time management to ensure business needs are met

Experience:
- Experience in a senior planning or Planning Manager role
- Experience of making strategic planning decisions
- Experience of managing an overview of multiple plans
- Experience of making decisions at pace, taking account of: risk, stakeholders points of view and customer implications at pace
- Senior planning experience in fast-moving consumer goods, preferably chilled
- Experience of presenting to senior managers/lay persons (using BI tools and providing narrative)
Dimensions:
Reports to the Factory Manager, with area operational teams as direct reports. Responsible for leadership of planning team and the associated systems, processes and resources.
