This is an exciting role within the high-profile Thames Tideway Tunnel (‘Super-Sewer’) project which is nearing the end of construction by Tideway leading to the start of commissioning and operation by Thames Water.

This £4.5billon project is highly complex and there is a need to manage the commercial ‘close-out’ of items, whilst collecting and retaining project knowledge and managing the ‘operational change program’ to minimise Thames Water’s financial and operational risks during this period.

In this role, you will direct a team of professionals including document controllers, area delivery engineers, and quantity surveyors to carry out the performance management of all commercial contracts for the project. You will be mitigating project risk transfer from Tideway to Thames Water to outperform the remaining Thames Tideway Tunnel price control funding.

Whilst this is a ‘close-out’ position, given the importance and profile it will lead to working on future essential engineering projects within Thames Water that are designed to continue to deliver and improve water supply and treatment resilience for generations to come.

What you’ll be doing as the Project Closeout Manager

- Implement and monitor compliance with agreement obligations with robust Key Performance Indicators and a performance framework.
- Propose and steer negotiations for all contract delivery, reconciliation and change management with Tideway.
- Design an effective Commercial Closeout and transition strategy.
- Organise and lead the transition of existing Tideway Integration Group (TIG) resources from an embedded team in the Tideway project with several parallel teams, including, document control, Area Delivery Engineers and Quantity Surveyors.
- Ensure capture of retained knowledge and develop a plan for employee retention as the projects close.
- The change management includes ensuring this large operational change is communicated and understood by the receiving operational teams and across the business.

Base Location: Hybrid- Camelford House, Albert Embankment, London SE1 7TP.

Working Hours: 36 hours per week.

What you should bring to the role

- Ability to engage with stakeholders, often with competing objectives, whilst maintaining strong collaborative relationships and open communication.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and negotiate with others through constructive challenge.
- Ideally relevant Commercial Contract Management experience.
- Management Qualification or experience in performance management (people and contracts).
- Be commercially astute with an understanding of contract law.
- Have experience and knowledge working within a large regulated infrastructure environment ideally the water industry or perhaps construction, transport, or environmental projects.

Team 1 - Islington Working

Team 2 - Safeguarding Adults Unit

The Safeguarding Adults Units is located at 222 Upper Street. It consists of 4 small teams/units: Safeguarding Adults Board (SAB), Safeguarding and Mental Capacity Act Team, Safeguarding Learning and Development Team and the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Office (DoLS).

The Safeguarding Adults Units support the work of the Safeguarding Adults Partnership Board, provides advice and guidance to staff and the public about safeguarding adults, raises awareness of what Safeguarding Adults means and provides support and advice on safeguarding policies and procedures. This is achieved through excellent customer service and the delivery of key activities which are designed to meet the needs of our customers. Working as part of a friendly and well-respected team, your role will be varied and rewarding.
To apply for this apprenticeship, you must:

- Be aged 16 or above and
- Be an Islington resident or
- Islington care leaver or
- Islington school leaver in the last 12 months

You will also need to satisfy the following course entry requirements:

- Not already have a qualification at the similar level or above in this apprenticeship subject
- Not have extensive skills or experience in this apprenticeship subject.
- Pass the course entry tests for example in Maths and English

Role Overview

Our client is seeking to expand by recruiting an Experienced Project Director, with strong leadership credentials to manage both the growth and delivery of projects. The ideal candidate will have relevant experience in managing risks and opportunities at the interface between clients, projects, and finance, along with supporting us to continue to build the business and ensuring successful project delivery. Experience of negotiation from both the lender and developer perspective will be considered.

Experience & Skills Required

- Oversee project budgets and quality control to maintain financial and operational efficiency

- Manage and mitigate project risks
- Develop and implement strategies to grow and improve the service lines, ensuring it aligns with company objectives

Technical Skills


- Experience of working at a senior level with diverse internal and external stakeholders, and building effective client relationships
- Highly experienced in proposal development and business development opportunities as part of wider strategy for the business.
- Proven track record of working effectively on international projects, on behalf of developers and/or investors. Experience working for an advisory / consulting business would be useful.
- Experienced in development and execution of ESG projects in compliance with IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles, PRI and other international requirements
- Demonstrable experience of leading multi-disciplinary teams and growing technical capability, including managing the deployment of resources to deliver successful outcomes and high-quality deliverables.
